I have prepared a lecture for my class about bitcoin. We will see how students feel about the prospects for cryptocurrency.

I'd love to see your slides and to see if you can present it in an unbiased manner.

I gave them the Wikipedia definition and the following statement:

Can Bitcoin work as a form of currency? What are the positives and the negatives of a crytocurrency in our existing monetary system.

Of course you'll say something to the effect of "It can't work in the existing system". But this is as unbiased as I can get. I purposely am giving them this first and then having a discussion as opposed to the other way around.

I'm curious, Broke, if any of your student go out and buy btc as a result of the discussion in your class and they lose their asses on it, is there any liability on your part?

Actually I'm given a long length of academic rope. If anybody does anything based off of a lecture, it's on them. Knowing the demographic of my students, I don't think anybody is going to buy any BTC.

I just thought it was an interesting topic. I'm not slinging crack. I'm surprised he didn't totally chastise me about doing this.

say what?

I think it's cool. And I hope you and your students get something out of it.

If anything, maybe it will get some of them to think deeper about what money actually is and why we value it.
