It's so volatile. You could potentially go bankrupt trying to short it. And it may only take a week or so, depending on how big your position. My brother just bought some, but it scares the living shite out of me.

Bubbles come in all shapes and sizes, so it's pretty irrelevant. If I were to argue that there is a bubble in nickel prices (which I'm not), I wouldn't look at the housing market as some kind of point of reference in terms of size. That, and there's a real floor that is assigned to housing prices in that it's got a tangible economic value. If one were to try to make the argument that bitcoin has a legitimate economic value in its blockchain technology, fine, but that is incredibly abstract and arguably very questionable (e.g., bitcoin doesn't possess a monopoly on blockchain technology).

Fair enough, let’s assume you are 100% correct. From Wall Streets perspective, if a sector has the potential to reach 2T - 6T in next 3-5 years, why on earth would you short it at 350B? That’s like breaking into a house to steal keys to a Dodge Stratus when there is a Porsche 911 Turbo running in the driveway with the doors open. You literally got non traditional investors pouring in money doing the dirty work for you.

I could be wrong, but to me juice isn’t worth squeeze, if in fact there is juice to squeeze at all.

I think you are on to something.

Futures go live sunday. Market movers have made money on the up. They will short the futures, pull money out of BC.

It will drop.

re: Shorting bitcoin
keep in mind you'll need cme margin accounts with enough funds to cover said margin (margin requirements will not be cheap for bitcoin)

youll also need leverage. that means more margin.

which also means there are massively incentivized bulls who took the other side of the shorts and will defend their positions when it comes to settlement.

in other words, youre not going to do it, so just stfu

re: Shorting bitcoin

But there were no futures to trade. As of sunday there will be.

So let's say you are a market mover. You have put millions into BC. Your billionaire and millionaire friends have too.

What happens to bitcoin? It goes up at a high rate. That's happening now.

Now there will be futures to trade as of sunday. Unlike BC now (no vehicle for shorting), there is a way to short the futures.

The only way to short and win is if it goes down.

Now I ask you, if the market movers can push this up that high, what happens to it if the short it? They pull their money, and it does what?

I have.

If I have, you don't think major market movers don't?

Does it scare the BTC crowd that almost 45% of all BTC is owned by 1,000 people?

re: Shorting bitcoin
It should.

I'm not knocking BC. Just stating facts. Think about the millions those 1000 people made as it went up! When they purchase those shorts on the futures... they will move their money OUT.

That means they made million going up. and moving that money out means the shorts will make them millions.

yes genius youre talking like youre bringing some novel concept to BTC trading

many cyrpto traders are moving their money out of BTC and into the altcoins preparing for the futures

BTC is already dropping in preparation.

my alts are up (iota) 12%, (eth) 10% and (ltc) 33% today

thats a lie

good thing our "crowd" understands there are other worthy blockchains to invest into even if BTC crashes down (which it will correct eventually)

Ok.

quote:

most smart cyrpto traders are moving their money out of BTC and into the altcoins preparing for the futures

sure......

But that doesn't explain you, in this thread, laughing at people saying they are going to short it.

quote:

my alts are up (iota) 12%, (etc) 10% and (ltc) 33% today

That's awesome! What do you think will happen to those when Bitcoin is shorted and it sees a massive swing down?
