I'm looking at buying a house in the Madisonville area. Putting around 50% down. My credit score is excellent.
Which lenders would you recommend for best rates and lower closing cost in the SE Louisiana area?

It's not about the lenders. Don't think of it that way. It's about the brokers. Find a competent mortgage broker in your area. Heck find several. Interview them over lunch one week.
I'm not sure if it's apparent from my advice, but if you've been thinking about a bank...don't. They're usually the least competitive when it comes to mortgage lending. Even with great credit, verifiable assets and a huge down payment.
