So I don't have to file OR pay until June 15th? Am I reading this correctly?

Correct. I'm surprised this hasn't hit the local news outlets yet.

Yes.

I'm sure the state will wait until the last second to push theirs out to the federal deadline but they will eventually.

Just got this from LCPA...

quote:

The Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) has indicated to the LCPA Advocacy Team they are working on tax relief provisions for the winter storms, but only for parishes with FEMA individual and public assistance. We will send a tax alert when the official LDR guidance is issued.

I'm trying to figure out who was damaged by this storm.

Yeah, it was cold and some people lost power for a bit.

Maybe IRS is going to come up with a "disaster" for each state, to push everything to summer, without having to make a covid disaster...

And your clients will find out on the news by COB today.

The IRS automatically provides filing and penalty relief to any taxpayer with an IRS address of record located in the disaster area. Therefore, taxpayers do not need to contact the agency to get this relief.

Did you read the linked article? If not, that’s fine, but it’s pretty clear in there.

With this announcement, is an extension required, or just act as June 15th is the filing/paying date?

Here's a serious question though:

Does this mean that I can hold off until June to file all of the S-Corp and Partnership extensions I was going to do in the next few days?

None required. If you need more time past June 15, file an extension then to get you to Oct 15.

Yes.

quote:

The declaration permits the IRS to postpone certain tax-filing and tax-payment deadlines for taxpayers who reside or have a business in the disaster area. For instance, certain deadlines falling on or after February 11, 2021, and before June 15, 2021 are postponed through June 15, 2021. This includes 2020 business returns, normally due on March 15 and individual and business returns normally due on April 15. It also includes the special March 1 filing and payment deadline for farmers and fishers who forgo making estimated tax payments. Taxpayers also have until June 15 to make 2020 IRA contributions.

If an affected taxpayer receives a late filing or late payment penalty notice from the IRS that has an original or extended filing, payment or deposit due date that falls within the postponement period, the taxpayer should call the telephone number on the notice to have the IRS abate the penalty

Yeah.. Good Luck with that....I am having some trouble but I am going to do my best to get it in before April 15th..

We still get notices about clients that had late 941 payments during the hurricanes. It is pretty easy to phone in and let them know about the disaster area and they take it right off.
