spinoff from OB
Paging Coach Guidry and Will Call
I plan on upgrading my truck this year. Ive studied the Will Call Method thread and have already gone to a dealership and walked out (New Years Eve, sales woman could not give me a copy of the itemized bill of sale she worked up. Stated she would "get fired" if she were to give me a copy). Ive been looking at the Toyota Tundra's and Chevrolet Silverado / GMC Sierra 1500s.
I noticed Chevrolet is releasing a new style Silverado for 2019 (later this year). Is the year a new style is released a good time to buy the older (2018)? From your experience, is it best to wait until a certain month of that year to buy or is now the time to start shopping? Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

For me I waited till the 2016s were being unloaded(in 2015). I still feel like I stole my truck from the dealer. You need to do your research and true car search and read message boards about otd price exc. obviously the Chevy dealer made money on my truck, but I forced them to at least give me a good deal.

March is Toyota’s Truck month. I bough my Tundra at the end of March 2 years ago and got $6500 off sticker.

The domestics discount heavily all the time, but when the 2019's hit the lots besides the 2018's, you might be a little better deal on a 2018.

I bought a new 2017 GMC 1500 back in August. I followed the WC method throughout the process and am very happy with the deal I negotiated, so to WC for the advice. Highly recommend following the WC method.
Even in August 2017, the dealer I was dealing with had only 2 2018's on the lot (biggest GMC dealer in Houston) and they seemed pretty eager to unload the rest of their 2017's to make room for the 2018's coming in. Lots of great deals to be had on the 2017's.
In the process of negotiating my deal on the 2017 I asked the salesman why I shouldn't just wait til the same deals come around for the 2018's? He basically explained that they aren't in any hurry to deal on the 2018's because from now until about June-July, anyone who wants a 2018 bad enough will get it regardless of the deals. Wouldn't see the good deals on the 2018's until mid-late summer.
Take that for what it's worth

makes sense
On the flip side, the sales women on new years eve when I went was selling the 2018 Silverado's for $10,000 less than the few 2017's they had left.

18 models are already being discounted $11,000 off the MSRP. Courtesy GMC in Lafayette is a big time volume dealer if your considering the GMC.

Ford and GMC can easily be had for $12k off. If you wait until the end of the year and get a demo model you can get $14k off. (That’s buying the previous year model)
Not sure what the discounts for Chevy and Toyota are.
But the best best time in Lafayette to buy might be during the car show in April.

Is there any purchase activity in today’s America as antiquated as the Car buying process?

So you're still paying upwards of 45k for a truck, correct? I'm not seeing the deal here. Unless you absolutely NEED a truck and are compelled to buy new.
That said, who's got a link to this "Will Call method"? Interested to see this. Also, is there a reason it didn't work on the OP's New Year's eve buy attempt?

That's because MSRP is a made up number to make people think they are getting a good deal.
