My trans union credit score fell from 716 to 666. Only change on my report was credit usage went up from 10% to around 18% due to purchasing a plane ticket and I didn’t pay it off before it was reported. Is this normal to have that much of a swing? And if I get back to around 10% credit usage shouldn’t it jump right back to where it was?

ETA: my score had jumped up to 716 from the 660+ range maybe 3-4 months ago when my usage went down to 10%. So shouldn’t it go up again when it gets back down to 10%?

Credit scores are a scam. It will go back up next month. Don't worry about it.

If you're worried about fluctuation, pay it off before the statement date and not the due date.

God damn. How expensive was this ticket?

ETA: Or how little available credit do you have?

I'm guessing that is most likely the problem. You used a big portion of your limit.

I wouldn't sweat it, but when you pay the tickets off, I would request a credit limit increase.

Do not open another account. That will decrease your average length of credit.

Just increase the limit on your current account.

Total available credit and lower utilization >>>>>> average age of accounts. If this dude only has a 5k limit, he probably has all relatively new accounts and the impact to his AAoA will he negligible

And both can be improved easily without opening a new account... Going back and changing your AAoA, not so much.

like I said, I doubt this 5k limit card is something he's had for 10 years it's probably relatively new. If he has a Capital One card, the CLI he gets will be insultingly small.

give me the additional account, increased available credit, and lower utilization
