Movies are opening. Can AMC make it w/o a vaccine?

Prices are low, but is it worth the risk? They have got to be close to bankruptcy. It had to be a consistent buy over the years.

What do we think here? 2021 comeback of the year candidate?

Too early for a comeback. I was just looking at this bc it popped 8% out of nowhere. But it’s still too early to buy in for me. I want to see a floor and an idea for how this can rebound. There are two things working against this stock: 1) the mask mandates and social distancing are likely to last all of 2021, so if AMC doesn’t get a sudden cash infusion then they’re bankrupt; 2) movies going directly to streaming services are doing well, and that hurts AMC right in the pocketbook simultaneously

Came here to post this.

If I was buying theater stock it would be Cinemark over AMC.

why can't these movie cinemas have their own streaming service and sell tickets to the movie, but you watch it from home?

Because they make their money from concessions and alcohol not tickets

Who would sell them the rights to the movie when they could stream it on another service that could pay more?

Fair enough, but what about for at least another run to $7 land?

Up 30% today. And it sure does appear to be forming a W here off the double bottom.

I’m struggling with reasons for a comeback though with AMC. They need $500m in cash to not go bankrupt, yet they only put out an offering for $100m. They’ve yet to introduce any reason for why they shouldn’t be going bankrupt here. Movies are delayed or releasing as streaming/theater combos for the rest of 2021. I really like these comeback plays, I mean I’m heavy in GameStop and BlackBerry. But I need some reason for the comeback. The offering today helps reduce the chance of bankruptcy but it’s still a very real threat

I played that run up in March from $2.50 to $6, and I’ve been watching AMC. But their business plan keeps taking short term hits to go with the long term downtrend. I think the only reason for a move back to $7 at this point is government financing potentially to save them

i lost money on AMC due to the cash reporting at the end of the year, made it back on CNK(which i intend to hold long) and i'm going to play AMC for a quick run and sell before they announce bankruptcy..

One thing AMC is doing well is renting out entire theaters. $150 for a new release, and $100 for an older movie. I was going to do it when my kids were home for Christmas but they were sold out already. You’re allowed to bring 20 people.

That might be good for weekdays during the day, but they have to be losing money on prime time showings doing that

Up 90% in less than a month. Not too shabby.

Glad y’all are making money. I’m not rooting against anyone, just didn’t see a reason for it. But it appears to be short squeezing with Gamestop

Who knows, if they are able to at least kick the bankruptcy can a bit further down the road then we could possibly see another run to $7.

Can an Executive in Kansas Save Movie Theaters?

A bit of a gamble though, I admit.

AMC’s long term issues have nothing to do with Covid and everything to do with streaming.

That indicates bankruptcy eventually.

The most recent run towards $2 has all been about bankruptcy. If they can show a reason that their business plan can stop the bankruptcy threat for now, then yea I fully expect it can rebound
