Motley Fool's site issues & stock pick this week
Signed up last week for their picks and they updated it at noon today. I go to log in just now but naturally the site is crashing.

Edit: it's back up now. ABNB is their pick today. I'm up 2.6% on it already.

Same thing happened to me. You should've received the email. I got it at 12:05 though.

The site is back up now.

The first time I tried logging in it said "Oops! There was a problem..."

I hit the Try Again button and it logged me in.

An article today from Motley Fool

Will Ebiefung
Jan 21, 2021 at 11:08AM

quote:

Airbnb stock is not a buy
Investors love to bet on growth stocks with disruptive business models because of their potential for long-term success. But while Airbnb is an exciting stock to watch, it doesn't look like a good investment right now because of potential overvaluation.

The company is already priced for perfection despite facing significant uncertainty from the coronavirus pandemic, and investors should wait until some of the hype dies down before considering the addition of Airbnb to their portfolios.

Also from Motley Fool:

quote:

Why Airbnb Is Worth an Investment Today
For some people, Airbnb is a way to save money. For others, it is a way to get a unique property. Still other people love Airbnb because it lets them stay in neighborhoods that hotels don't serve and experience a destination in a different way. A service that lets people sculpt travel to their own needs and desires is one that we think will continue to take share from traditional hotels and motels. And by continuing to take the pain points out of booking and staying, we think Airbnb will increasingly become the first choice for a growing number of travelers. Today's valuation assumes strong continuing growth, but we don't think it anticipates the true potential of this platform.

I'm up 2.4% on it in the last 20 minutes.

Make that nearly 3% now.

I'm trying to figure out why the free article says ABNB is over valued and not a buy but Stock Advisor says buy.

Yea that is strange. It should be noted that the advisor who recommends ABNB is David Gardner, one of the three founders of the Motley Fool. I'd say his recommendation holds more weight.

Up nearly 4% now.

re: Motley Fool's site issues & stock pick this week
What time did everyone receive the email? Someone told me they received the email at 12:03 central, so a couple of minutes before I did.

I also heard about ABNB from a news source that I am subscribed to, less than a minute after I received the email. That source seems to mention MF names, I just never paid attention to it.

I read that the new name is on the website before the email is sent out. I was logged in and did not see it. The page that it posts to does not auto refresh when that new name is entered, so you have to refresh the page. I saw complaints that the website crashes when a new name is released, but you would think MF could take care of that issue by now.

I wonder if that other story by Will Ebiefung is MF way of showing doubters that they keep the new recommended names under wraps, even the employees. Someone on their message board speculated that the new name were being front run, but based just on today's price action, I don't think that is the case.

I received the email at 12:45pm. Website crashed at 12:00 and didn't let me in until around 12:10pm. By then, the price had gone up a decent bit already but I was still able to buy and make 3-4% so far.

TDsngumbo, didn't mean to bother you. Wanted to confirm your email had a time stamp of 12:45 pm central and it was not a typo. That time gap of 40 minutes from when I got it at 12:05 and when you received it seems excessive.

I know what and where to look for next time.

re: Motley Fool's site issues & stock pick this week
It came into my inbox at 12:46pm. I don't see any timestamp in the body of the email so I can only say what time it arrived in my inbox. I read somewhere else that these emails go out 45 minutes after the pick is released on their website so it's on par with what I've read before.

Thanks again. I read the same 45 minute deal, but for some reason I got the impression that if you knew where to look, you could find the new rec name at 11:15 central, before everyone got the email at noon. That is not the case!
