Long term, they are the kings of the cloud with their market share, and in nadella I trust. They have a bright cloud oriented ceo that has another good decade in him.

I dont get tiktok, is it for the data since they really don't have that yet? How valuable is tiktok data going to be and the business seems to not be very profitable? Its aggressive though, and Im happy to see msft willing to take a huge swing at something.

I was sitting on 8 August 7th Microsoft call contracts. I was extremely concerned going into the weekend after the news broke on Friday.

There’s a $10 billion government contract that is between Microsoft and Amazon that will be announced soon. It was originally awarded to Microsoft but amazon filed a suit. Expect Microsoft to get the contract and go up bigly as a result.

$10 billion on a company with a 1.6 trillion market cap is a drop in the bucket

I admittedly have no clue about Tik Tok other than it’s some dancing app, but is it really that popular for this to be Microsoft’s foray into Social Media?

Asking price for TikTok is $50 billion. That’s valued over 1.5x the market cap of its closest competitor, Snapchat, and almost double the market cap of Twitter. Now I imagine it sells for significantly less than that $50 billion bc they have no leverage, but still if it sells for $25 billion, it’s worth as much as all of Twitter basically. That shows how popular it is. But it’s kinda crazy, it’s taken off dramatically since quarantine happened. Such a dramatic change that I’m not sure it’s just a flash in the pan. It’s not that different from Snapchat, but everyone seems to have flocked from Snap to TikTok

Tik Tok is where almost the entirety of users age 13 - 24 are right now. They aren't on Instagram besides supplementing their Tik Tok account.

I imagine if you want to own consumer social media data for the next generation, Tik Tok is where to start.

Something I've appreciated about Tik Tok is its diversity of content. Most people think it's teenagers lip syncing and dancing to music clips. There are comedy skits, politics, music lessons, parenting videos, cooking videos - essentially everything you can get from YouTube except Tik Tok is genius in its algorithm and its ability to get user content SEEN.

I was on YouTube for years as a guitar player. Would bust my arse making high quality videos that would MAYBE get 100 views. I even had a video a few months ago that took about 6 hours of work and it got 4 views. 4!

I started doing quick 1 minute lessons on Tik Tok and I get at least 400 views on each. One of them has 14k views.

And that has driven more traffic to my YouTube site.

I know it's easy to hate on Tik Tok, but I think it's going to be a long term social media company if it's not banned for being Chinese spyware.

When I was doing my research I did see an increase in the number of age appropriate women for myself (35-55 years old) posting on Tiktok.

It could be a winner for MSFT.
