Looking to relocate to BR

Hey guys...
I am looking to relocate to BR in hopes of finding a job in the financial realm. I am not limited to finance though, and considering fields outside.
I currently live in FL, and will be conducting my search online for the most part. I don't have too many connections in BR, but I am strongly committed to making the move with my family.
Any tips are appreciated!

You're a special kind of stupid, aren't you?
You want tips?
Avoid north Baton Rouge, all roadways (especially I-10 and I-12, College Drive, Essen Lane, Airline Highway), Walmarts at the beginning of every month, and stay inside your own home away from windows and thin walls after dark.
But seriously... if you insist on moving to Baton Rouge, good luck and I hope everything works out for the best for you and your family.

Are you an LSU alumn?
If so, you can use their career search and participate in on-campus interviews.

Keep driving until you reach Austin, most of the financial investment in Baton Rouge is in the form of Meth, Crack, and Glocks.

I relocated here two years ago on a shot and a prayer for the oil & gas. Like anywhere, its "good ole boy" system where you have to know someone or start from the bottom. No way I would have done it and brought a family with me (without moving here, renting, and landing a job).
What does your wife do?

Any job experience?
I've got about a year 1/2 with my current employer as a financial.advisor.
Sounds like most of you love have no positive opinions on BR. It's. A big city, i know, but when I've been there its always seemed like such a down home place. And beautiful on the lakes.

I like BR. We live in Zachary, north of BR... way north. Not the north the previous poster talked about.
BR is just 20 minutes away and we don't have all the negatives the other posters added.
I am not sure why every time there is a thread like this, every nega-poster has to spew bad things about BR. We have our fair share of welfare recipients in the old parts of town, but so does any city. Just learn where they are and stay out.
Find a suburb and enjoy.

So in summary, BR is a great place, just don't live there!

Still in the same parish, just not in Baton Rouge proper.

You'll be hard pressed to find finance jobs, but I would check out Methanex in Geismer. They're putting a huge chemical plant in there and will need to hire everything from engineers, to secretaries, to operators, to accountants, to janitors. It's a huge project. However, in finance, I don't realy know of that many opportunities in this area. This is more of a construction, engineering, and oil/gas region.
