Is there a catch to these things? Seems like a decent idea for budget planning but it just feels like a gimmick to screw me.

Even though I am sure they have figured out an algorithm that correctly places your high energy months onto low energy cost bills, I just don't like it.

I also like seeing my efforts on energy savings immediately. With level billing, you won't have any idea how well you are doing.

I use levelized billing w/ Entergy and it tells you right on the bill what your bill would have been if you didn't levelize it. That way you know exactly where you stand.

But to answer the OP's question. There isn't any trick to it. They even have all the math broken down on your bill so you know exactly what's going on.

Maybe I'm strange but I like to pay for what I use when I use it.

My summer months are around $200. So I just budget that for the month. If it's less than that, well I'll put it in savings or something.

They do monthly readings and if at the end of the year you have used more power (or less) than you've paid for using the set payment, you pay (or receive) the difference. So basically it's a 13th payment or a credit.

Sounds like a free loan to them if you overpayed.

My electric bill is pretty small anyways because I finally found a rental house in N.O. that is redone with insulation. Man, what a difference.
