Is adopting the slogan "Cheat Death" a fireable offense for a hospital CEO?

A local hospital around here just adopted the slogan "Cheat Death" for their new advertising campaign. This just seems like a horrible idea to me. Including the word death in the campaign is terrible. Apparently the hospice associated with this hospital is pissed. Is this a fireable offense for the CEO? (He apparently approved this slogan without running it by the board of directors, and also had every hospitalist who works there--like 22 doctors--all turn in there notice a month or two earlier). See the link--

I don't know if it's a terminable offense but it would make me think twice about using their services. Wow! That's the best they can come up with? I'd fire the marketing agency first, then I would call Larry Tate.

I would expect that slogan for a BALCO-type operation, not a legit hospital

The slogan may be viewed as in poor taste but the CEO's vision is spot on for the new healthcare environment.

Dumb idea. Maybe not a fireable idea, but dumb nonetheless.

No.

But in conjunction with...

quote:

had every hospitalist who works there--like 22 doctors--all turn in there notice a month or two earlier

then yes.

Sounds like he failed in getting a service agreement signed for his hospital with that hospitalists group. THAT is a firable offense.

That slogan seems reasonable to me. Maybe you didn't see the backside of those shirts?

I'm assuming you don't work for Gaston Memorial. Are you affiliated with CMC or Presby, or on your own?

No. Just having a little fun. I know several folks who work at GMH. Good people.

The slogan got the hospital some coverage in the national media today (NY Post, CBS, etc). I know that any publicity is supposed to be good publicity, but I don't think that's true in this case.
