I'm about 6 years away from retirement and nervous as hell about the market. I could be wrong but I see the market crashing sooner than later. Should I pull the string and go to mostly cash or just take my chances and stay where I'm at? My investment risk is probably a little to high for my age.

What are you invested in now? Your allocation shouldn't be risky that close to retirement.

40% stocks allocation is viable 6 years away from retirement. I personally wouldn’t go less than that.

The journey is not over once you reach the peak of the mountain.

Matter of fact, more climbers die on the way down the mountain as their sense of alertness drops with the feeling of accomplishment. Similarly, more retirees run out of money during retirement bc they didn’t plan well enough.

50/50 stocks bonds
Pull off 3% of portfolio per year, maximum

If you do this, historically you have next to no chance of ever running out of money.

How close are you to your number? If you want to retire in 6 years and you're only 40% of the way there, then you might want to consider sticking with mostly equities. If you're 80% there, then yeah, divert some to bonds.

Might as well just ask a magic 8 ball if you already don't have a plan this close to retirement

I've always seen and believed the correct percentage at 4%. Even if you have absolutely zero returns during retirement (highly unlikely), you'd make 25 years before running out

You’ll have to give it all to a nursing home eventually anyway. I say frick it, keep that bitch rolling agressive.
