Where would you put it?

Stocks?
Bonds?
Mutual Funds?
Real Estate?
Treasury Bills?
A mix of any of the above or others not mentioned?

Assume all your bills are paid and this is money you cannot stand to gamble with so you must avoid high risk investments.

If your bills are paid, what do you need the million dollars to do? Growth? Income?

We need more info....

An annuity may be something you're interested in because you're trying to avoid the risk of the market.

Growth but I would say 4-5% is reasonable.

Annuity as in insurance? I've always thought insurance policies were bad investments?

Would there be any dividend stocks that would not carry as much risk?

Probably half into blue chips or index funds and the other half towards solid down payments on several B grade rental properties.

Just another option that you may have been interested in depending on your age and risk tolerance. I know annuities are not a board favorite, but they have their time and place.

They certainly do. An indexed variable annuity with an income rider is what I would do if I did not have investing experience and just wanted a safe, comfortable return.

Everybody has their own metric ABC vs ABCDF

But, in general, B grade is a blue-collar neighborhood with decent schools.
