How much lower can you talk down the dealership from the internet price?

In the market for a new truck. Internet prices for some of these trucks are already 9-11k off MSRP. Can you go in and haggle some more off or is the internet price the rock bottom?

P.S. I've read the Will Cover method and will use it.

This is all you really need to know.

Learn as much as you can and have dealerships compete for your business. If the internet price someone gives you is better than all of the other places, I'm not sure how much lower they will go.

Interested in following this as well.

I've estimated the invoice price (after holdbacks) to be around $31-32K on a car I'm looking at purchasing. I asked the dealer for the best "out the door" price and he came back with $34K and some change. I walked. Looked a few days later and the internet price was $33K.

I'm also seeing the same vehicle 5000 cheaper at dealerships ~1000mi away. Can you ship a vehicle to yourself? And wouldn't it be worth it if it's fairly less than 5k? Has anyone ever shipped a vehicle? Do the dealerships help you out in the departing city?

Why not just buy an airline ticket and drive it back?

There are times you have done an amazing job to get them to come off MSRP and there are times you better walk out the door at 25% below MSRP or you got ripped off.

Completely dependent on the manufacturer and the vehicle.

I bought my wife a car in December that was marked down on the internet quite a bit. I used the will cover method for about a week kept negotiating and leaving. The guy couldn’t believe I wouldn’t buy.

Long story they maybe went down $500 more on the car. I kept saying that’s not good enough but eventually I felt like I had hit the bottom. I saw the invoice and still pushed further but with no success. When I negotiated on the trade in though they kept moving up. The last time I said I need $1500 more of I’m walking. They went out and looked at my trade again and gave the the whole $1500. I got 3K more for my trade than where we started. I think it just depends on the time of the year and how bad they want to move it. But I would still go negotiate it and see.

We really want to get a Telluride for my wife but I think getting them off MSRP is going to be a no go. Demand >>>>> supply right now. There's only a handful even in the state of louisiana right now and I looked in Houston too and there's only a handful in the trim level we want.

Sucks because I think they look awesome and all the reviews of the car say it's really great. Just don't think I can justify it when we could get a well optioned CX9 for 6-8k less. We will likely NEED to purchase within the next month so waiting isn't really an option.

Opposite situation here. From what I read, dealerships are having trouble moving the new, redesigned Silverados. I personally like the look and any truck from this decade will be like a spaceship to me. Hoping I can leverage that for a deal.

Same boat here - I'm trying to push my car another 6 months in hopes the high demand dies down

Absolutely.
Costs $800 or so IIRC. Dealer could coordinate that.

I'm not sure where you're going with this. If he told you best OTD is 34k, then 33k internet price isn't lower than the offer he gave you...Which seems like that's what you're implying. Unless they're advertising OTD prices, which I don't think I've ever seen.

The internet price, just like the MSRP is just a fictitious number they put to try to make you think you are getting a good deal when they offer a few thousand off.

The Will Cover method steered me right. When I bought my truck I didn't stop haggling until they basically asked me to leave. A few "let me go talk to my manager," and every time I told them they'd have to do better than that if they want me to buy from them. Made them take off all kinds of fees, didn't pay a penny for extras. Plus already had my financing in order before I walked in the door, but they didn't know that.

Edit: like others have said, ignore MSRP, internet price, all that. Those mean nothing to you.

Not sure why you got downvoted.

$34K out the door price is better than $33K internet price.

OTD = tax, title and license included. You'd still have to add TT&L to that internet price, so out the door on that $33K internet price is probably more like $36K depending on your local tax rate.

Buy at the end of the month. They are trying to hit their quota then.

Also, if you have the ol lady with you, tell her to stfu. They are recording in the cubicles when they say they need to go talk with the manager.

I showed her the little plaque behind us when we walked out that said "this rooms being audio and video recorded." They are waiting to hear what price you will take.

I loved when the manager came bang on the side of my vehicle when we were pulling away and said, "OK, I'll give you the price you want." You should have seen his face when u said, "now I want you to take off the red stripes and put black!"
