After a 16-month investigation into competitive practices at Apple, Amazon, Facebook and Google, the House Judiciary subcommittee on antitrust has released its findings and recommendations on how to reform laws to fit the digital age.
quote:
The report concludes that the four Big Tech companies enjoy monopoly power and suggest Congress take up changes to antitrust laws that could result in parts of their businesses being separated.

The Democratic report found that the four tech companies enjoy monopoly power in the following areas: Apple: distribution of software apps on iOS devices. Amazon: most third-party sellers and many suppliers. Facebook: online advertising and social networking. Google: online search.

you do not want monopolized data gathering. You just don’t.
I won’t be disappointed in the least of some forced selling off and spin offs occur

Regulators can any argument that a company is a monopoly. Good luck with this going anywhere. Amazon having a monopoly on the distribution of third party e-commerce sales?
I can't wait to see how they propose to "break this up"

I’m afraid some of y’all don’t know how this works:
They release this report, maybe a hearing or two, and the big 4 will increase their “lobbying” efforts to these congressmen, and it’ll go away.
This is America after all.

The new antitrust law will be written by the big 4...

I’m not going to say this won’t happen, but as big and bad as you all think the big 4 are, they aren’t a pimple on the arse of what Standard Oil and its peers were when they were dismantled. If the political willpower is there (and I believe it may very well be) they will most certainly be reined in.
ETA: A prime example is the H1-B program changes. That was merely the first salvo at big tech. I’ll bet good money there will be more.

The only one I really agree is a monopoly for the reasons they said is Facebook as a social media monopoly because they keep buying up competitors. They tried buying out Snapchat and already bought out Whatsapp and Instagram.
As much as I hate Google's politics, its not their fault nobody wants to use Yahoo or Bing for their search engine. Amazon doesn't hold a monopoly on 3rd party sellers...Walmart, Target, and Newegg all have 3rd party sellers on their sites.

Maybe, but these tech companies have all our data and communications and secrets, so they prob have more dirt on the Reps than Standard Oil.

Speak for yourself. I have a recent position in Apple and already down enough.
