homeowners insurance: who's shopping around?

Recently received renewal docs and my policy is set to go up Double from what it was last year with no claims.
Anyone else experiencing the same thing? Haven't shopped around yet, waiting on a call back from my agent.

Ours doubled as well. According to our agent they're all doing. Have done a little bit of shopping so far and it seems to be about the going rate. Haven't found anything cheaper

Best move I made was several years back when I went to a insurance broker and had them shop around for me and get me the best rate. Cut my rates in half back at the time. Now since them, my rates have been creeping back up every year, as they're apt to do. Last time I had a broker shop around rates for me, they said my current insurance is about as cheap as I'm going to get. But if you don't already use a broker, I highly recommend getting one. Let them do the shopping for you.

Louisiana needs to adopt the coastal building codes that florida and alabama have. This could encourage insurance companies to come write more homeowners policies

The broker suggestions are spot on.
Also, if you can, determine reputation for customer service in your area. The differences between companies approach to claim settlement can be dramatic.
I've had very good luck with USAA-Pure in that regard.

Any broker recommendations in the Baton Rouge area?

Either I must have gotten lucky or because I'm in ATL area (not Louisiana). Mine renewed in May of this year for basically the same price as last year, it did go up, but it was less than 5% I think.

I live in BR but use a company in New Orleans. Hebert/Wiltz.

As an insurance broker myself, I completely agree.

I would be worried if you didn’t agree.

Mine went up about 20% in TX. I priced out at reputable, financially stable firms and couldn’t materially improve my rate so stuck with it.
