Home renovation- moving all your sh*t out

So my wife and I have decided to add on to our home and will need to start thinking about where all our stuff is going to go during the construction and renovation.
Was just wondering if anyone had any tips from previous experience about what to do with all your belongings?
We will have 2 bedrooms that really won't have any work done minus refinishing hardwood floors and paint, so we could technically move most of our furniture and stuff into those 2 rooms and then move to a storage unit when they need to get in there to do work. Try to save on storage.
Builder is expecting the project to take 5 months. We'll be staying with my parents during the renovation so we could bring some things but not furniture or anything big. Thanks in advance!

Might be able to rent a storage pod and leave it in the driveway

I would look at the pod too. You won't have to worry about loading stuff up and hauling it in multiple trips to a storage unit.

I rented a 20 ft container from Mobile Mini. I think it was right at $125/month--they quote somewhere around $100/month, then there is some bullshite fee. Regardless, I found it much more convenient than trying to load shite up and handle things twice each way to save $20/month for a storage unit. They delivered and picked up. It was super easy.
We placed it in my driveway, packed that sucker full of furniture, then unloaded when we were done renovating. Since we were doing floors throughout the house except the kitchen and laundry room, we stacked as much small stuff as we could in those rooms, then loaded the container with everything else to have a clear house for the work to be done.

We replaced flooring last summer, install hard wood floors (oak) in everywhere but kitchen snd breakfast area. So we basically moved everything (dust etc was a concern) the pod held the large furniture- or most of it. Put the rest in the garage, kitchen area etc,
It was a bitch

No garage? Garage is the easiest. Pod is an option, they aren't cheap though. I looked into something Pod type options and the cheapest was something like $500 for 6 weeks, you may have better options though.
Not sure what kind of work you are having done and they will prefer all the space be available from the start to finish. You may be able to explore doing one room at a time or not every room at a time. Just move your stuff around.
If they say 5 months, I'd plan on 7 FYI.

Renovating a house right now. My advice- just find another house you like and move. If you go forward with it, plan on longer than 5 months.
