What channels did you go through to get it? Lots of information out there to sift through, so kind of looking for real world examples.

thanks

I started studying for it in 2014 and 2015 as a way to move up in my company, then they started laying off all the PM's so that was that.

Consider learning about all the new Lean Six Sigma and Agile stuff. That is all the rage now. It's like the PMBOK on heroine.

recently the PMI incorporated agile atleast. they're now pushing for understanding both waterfall and agile based on type of work.

learn those and the 6th sigma class will teach you when to use what and a whole lot more.

The PMP has allowed folks who have no business managing people, a foot in the door for allowing them too.

There are some good managers with a PMP, but from my experiences, very few.

I am studying for it now. I am doing to 3 day boot camp training through PMOLINK. Let me back up and say i will study 3 months before going through the boot camp then will prepare for the exam. i am taking my time to say the least. Work pays for it and i am not sure if i will ever use it to be honest but i will have it.

No more so than MBA's or PhD's.

PMP's arent necessarily designed to train a person to be a people manager. More like managing processes and resources (human and other) to a specific one-time goal. A PM is rarely anyone's boss.

Bayou choupique, you will definitely use the knowledge whether you intend to or not. It trains your brain to think about things a little differently and will make you more efficient in pretty much anything you do. That is, if you buy in. If you study it to barely pass and get letters behind your name, it probably wont serve you well. Think about the Karate Kid scene right before Miyagi hands him the sponge, about grapes.

I also suggest looking at agile certification if you are in consulting or deal with project managing software implementations.

I recently got an agile certification, will look to continue adding additional certifications.

I got it through my company. Took a week class through PMI crammed on a Thursday night and passed it on Friday. Personally I think it’s a huge money grab certification but there are some in my company who value it.
