Covid19 Vaccine possibly coming November 1
Posted by Auburn1968 on 9/2/20 at 4:07 pm113
That ought to jack up the market especially in my covid sector positions for a few days.
LINK
Not too surprised here. Phase 3 was started in the first of July and Operation Warp Speed started manufacturing a target of 300 million doses at the same time.
That's good news! Prices may vary.

Great news especially for the airline and hotel industry now that business travel will be getting back to normal pre Covid levels.

This does not say a vaccine will be in place November 1 but they are pushing through permits to build sites ready to vaccinate by November 1. Sounds like a best case scenario and if it does hit they want to be prepared.

True that it doesn't specifically say that Nov. 1 is the start of distribution, but it is a good indication that it may be very possible at that time even in limited release to high risk people. Phase 3 is already 30,000 people in one study and another 30k in another.
Phase 3 trials started in the first of July. Phase 2 trials were very positive for antibody production. Manufacture of the vaccine started about the same time as the start of phase 3 with a goal of 300 million doses.
Much of the reason for a long development process for vaccines has less to do with the science of medicine and a lot to do with the red tape of the FDA.
Operation Warp Speed is getting it done. If some bureaucrat in med-legal holds things up over the placement of a semicolon in a foot note, they might find themselves counting mosquitoes in Alaska during caribou mating season.
The stock market is going to like this a lot.

Rat poison

Not really speaking about that article in general, but I’m optimistic there will be a mass produced vaccine by the end of beginning of 2021. And that company is going to make an absurd amount of money.

No that would be Coumadin (warfarin) as a blood thinner. Hate that stuff.

I've heard that the vaccine will be "free" to the end recipients like the cv19 tests. No matter what it costs, it will be trivial next to the damage the lock-downs have caused to the economy.
My thinking is that this announcement will have a big impact on the stock market over the next couple of days. It will also have an impact on the election, but maybe not as big as burning blue cities down.
Time will tell.

from NYT:
quote:
The C.D.C. documents said the vaccine would be free to patients, but that providers might not be reimbursed for administrative costs if the vaccine was given an emergency authorization, rather than a standard approval.

I predict a lot of flack (undeservedly) on the pricing of the vaccine.
If true, and a company produced a vaccine in under 8 months, that is spectacular and the R&D spent deserves to be recouped.
But a lot of liberals will cry that the greedy pharma is profiting on sickness. Watch, there will be a big push for vaccine price controls.

Why is market down?

Well, I got a bath and a shave today in most of my stocks except for the covid depressed sectors which I doubled down on last night. They have so far held their own.
I surprised the big good news on vaccines didn't break the other way.

Because Dr. Death Fauci came out and said he doesn’t expect one to be ready by the election, but by the end of the year

I wonder if the heavy tech losses are in part tied to the vaccine news? Tech has been aided by the lock-downs and those may end before the end of the year.

Absolutely. I think a lot of folks that have been riding high on the tech stocks are taking profits and moving their money into other sectors affected by the virus. I'm in the process of doing the same thing...but I sure with I'd done it on Tuesday!
