Is anyone else seeing or hearing about the $600 a week from the feds being retroactive back to March? My wife got her usual state benefit and first week of fed money on Tuesday.

Today she also got another $1080 from them that seems like 2 weeks of retroactive fed money.

Or is the system on a fritz?

No matter what, it’s complete BS to be paid that much to be unemployed.

If this were anything other than a government-mandated forced closure, I would agree.

So let’s say I’m single and make 101k a year, I’m out of work because the government shut me down. I’m not eligible for the stimulus. Louisiana pays $247 a week unemployment. Do you think that’s fair?

I totally agree with you. I saw someone else post that number about LA about a week ago. I'm not from there, so I thought they were mistaken. Geez! I don't know what the cost of living is there, but there's no way to justify that.

I hate to pile on that guy, but that was a retarded statement to make. People who are temporarily laid off or had to shut their businesses have been prohibited by the government from working or making money. And the ones who have been permanently laid off can't even leave their houses to look for work or go on an interview. Well, I guess you could stock groceries at Kroger or where ever, or maybe deliver pizzas. But the point is, overall, they're f'ed right now.

As for the numbnuts who say, "well, with state UI + that (temporary) $600, people won't go back to work, even if they're called back." Bullsh!t! If someone gets called back to their old job or gets offered a new job (once the lockdown is over), they get reported and their benefits are discontinued.

I don't know. I try (I really do) to see where people are coming from as best I can. But some mofos just take being dumb to a whole new level.

It's really frustrating hearing some of these clowns relate laid off workers to welfare rats. Are they just mad because they still have a job?

Didn’t mean to stir up a hornets nest. I’m thinking more so of the people in Louisiana who make equal to or less than $800/week.

Hard working people like all you guys who contribute to this fine message board will get through this and use this money wisely, if receiving it.

But when it’s time to get back to work. Other LA citizens who essentially get paid let’s say $10-$15/hour aren’t going to rush and go back to work when they can stay home a little while longer and make the same

My line of thinking was that this would incentivize a portion of Louisiana citizens to not rush back to work and lead to more abuse of tax payer money

I’m also typing on a phone so if any errors with my grammar, I apologize. Hence my username

My understanding is they’ll continue reaching out to employers for certification. So if their business just got PPP funded, they have to spend that on payroll in the next 8 weeks.

Their filed reports with LDR/LWC will kick the applicant out of the pool.

And my comment may have sounded insincere. The thread made me think of a few people I know. Both make roughly $300 a week and are now being paid $700 to stay home.

those people suck and will waste that money because they never had that kind of money before. I agree with Yellowfin in his earlier comments.

They are starting to figure out that they can work 18 hours and still get their benefits. That is a challenge we are already facing

Again, I don't live in LA. So I don't know how your state's UI system is run. I live in VA, and the system here requires a person to search for jobs in their current or past field. The system even sends you jobs that you qualify for. If you don't do that, or if you're offered a job and refuse it, they simply bounce you off the system. But right now, no one is required to look for a job... because most can't. Maybe it's different in LA. I don't know.

Are there people who may apply a damn near scientific approach to avoid finding a job, just so that they can make more with this $600/wk federal bump? Probably so. While ethically suspect, it is the rational thing to do - no different than the larger companies who are raiding the SBA programs (even though they don't need the money), and squeezing out the smaller companies that are struggling to stay alive. To me, that's a MUCH bigger problem. Joe and Susie will be tossed off this program by late July anyway, when it runs its course.

But back to the individual level, and the issue of waste, fraud and abuse... let's have a talk one day about the disability and SSI programs. On those topics, it's very likely that we'll be in complete agreement. IMO, there are WAY too many able bodied people, who've found "good" lawyers, and are now on the public teat until the day they overdose on meth. Don't get me started.

P.S. And I'll apologize for my strong language in that previous post.

What’s the difference between selecting claimant, exhaustee or neither on the UI application?

I don't think I have ever done this, but I'm going to give a shout out to the Louisiana governmental bureaucracy. Great Job processing the unemployment benefits!!!

Louisiana as a hot post for both the virus and has an economy that is based on tourism and oil industries, So we have a high unemployment rate. Ou state govt. is doing a great job of getting our citizens money.

Seriously I've been reading articles where a majority of people in New Jersey, New York, and Florida haven't received any unemployment money yet.

Close to 75% of the unemployment claims in Illinois, haven't been processed.
