re: Calling all Traders
What strike you in for the Jan Vix? I am heavily long calls going into the end of the year and only protection(kinda) I have is miners. Thinking I need some insurance. I still feel we rally into end of year. Spx been forming a base these last couple weeks. Support all the way down at 3075 though

And we closed right near resistance today. Need it to breakthrough or we may be headed lower

re: Calling all Traders
exited a healthy chunk of positions this morning..
nice for profits to come ready for collections right before the holidays.

i'll wait for $SPX correct or establish new supports before extending myself again.

re: Calling all Traders
Turned NVDA short 11/29 calls into a last minute strangle: 220/212.5. Dumped some short TWTR 32.5 calls on for 12/13. Still short EA 102 12/6 calls. Letting AMZN 1840/1697.5 strangle finally run to expiration and (hopefully) die a peaceful death this Friday. That one pays for Christmas.

I tend to get MUCH better pricing when I split my strangles and iron condors up into separate call side and put side trades. Can’t always do that, but... So, does anyone else lean that way?

re: Calling all Traders
not sure if i'm doing it correctly..
but i have to trade into those positions.

buying puts and selling calls on an "up" swing(days)...
...and then buying the calls and selling puts on the down days.

since thats isnt always possible with margin requirements..
i'd tend to buy the puts/calls first... and then sell the calls/put whenever IV peaks.

i never get good fills otherwise.
those 1 percents add up..imo, is worth the extra effort.

re: Calling all Traders
OK. Good to hear. A casual trader that I see on track days looked at me like I was a Martian when I described my method to him. He’d just been constructing his trades as a strangle/straddle or iron fly “package” in Think or Swim. I don’t think that he realized that the legs could be entered individually.

I agree with you. To me, the slippage adds up over the course of a year... or years.

And to you as well. I hope that we all think of some things to be thankful for this year. And hopefully it's more to do with the people in our lives than the money in our accounts.

re: Calling all Traders
And now back to work. Managed to put on some 12/6 ZS 57/63 call credit spreads while sitting in the dentist’s chair. Hey, ya gots to do what ya gots to do.

Earnings were announced about 15 minutes later. Same song as before the holidays: any announcement that isn’t amazing causes the stock to get kicked in the face after hours. Should be able to close these tomorrow morning for a nice return.

CRWD is on deck tomorrow. Similar company, but it’s already been pounded lately. Not sure that I want to press my luck. Anybody else playing these for earnings?

I got on dec vertical call spreads on CRM earlier today. Beats on top and bottom line and guidance. Down AH. lol. That’s how this goes sometimes. Maybe will rebound tomorrow...

re: Calling all Traders
i planned to simply to play with tastyworks this week..

but with these down days i ended up working into positions on ADBE, FIVE, AVGO, PAYX, SNPS, COST...have maybe 25 more postions to take up before start of new year.

so far this week was primarily credit put spreads and/or long calls going into an earnings week.
..i'll add the other sides whenever opportunity present.

also sold 10 put on COST expiring the 6th.. technicallyis a diagonal or calender spread(?). will let short puts expire..and then sell again into earnings for a normal spread or condor

i had a 2 standard dev short condor on CRM going into the announcement .. i believe expiring in ~40 days so probably cant close it yet.

..looks like their fee structure of tastyworks is very competitive with interactive brokers.(but since i am unfamiliar with software...took WAY too much time)

re: Calling all Traders
NTES has pretty good potential for a dividend capture.

they have a final dividend of $7.57.
ex-div date is 5th of dec

for anyone unaware..you MUST hold it before 4pm the day before ex-div date..ie today

and expect the stock to drop $7.59 on the ex-div date (tomorrow)

my capture technique is to sell ITM calls at the earliest.. you'll need to do math.. i try to set the strike so call monies is less than the dividend $$ (usually you'll earn half the div amt at least...you WANT the stock to be exercised from you)

not 100% risk free....but pretty close.
biggest negative is to make this worth doing...using up a bit of margin is required (but ideally...is being held only overnight)

Since I misread the earnings calendar, I dumped call credit spreads yesterday instead of today. The stock started taking a beating from the open. I went from 25 delta to about 14 in a matter of minutes. Call that a version of “fat fingers” luck. And after announcing record earnings and positive guidance a few minutes ago... you know the story. Yep, it’s getting punched in the face. Makes no sense. But since AMZN is probably going to hurt my feelings by expiration tomorrow, I need this one.

re: Calling all Traders
Including my own, apparently there were all kinds of errors related to CRWD yesterday. CNBC reported that there was a bogus number contained in the earnings report and that’s what caused the initial AH sell off. The stock eventually recovered to slightly above where it started the day... but thankfully not enough to affect my short position. CRWD management is blaming the wire service for the error. We’ll see if anything more comes of this.

re: Calling all Traders
LULU on the earnings deck today. I don’t follow that sector and don’t have any feel for how that company performs (just another gimmicky women’s apparel company to me). I threw on a paper trade for some call credit spreads. It’s down about 5% in AH, so my hunch was right. An “easy” $1500 in one day if I’d made the bet. But I’d rather have some idea, rather than just taking a wild azz guess.

Anybody play it for realz?

Earlier I put some 12/20 straddles on CMG and some 12/20 call credit spreads on NVDA and then LYFT... right before it took off to the moon. That one might take me for a ride before next Friday (get it? take me for a ride - I’m here all week... try the veal... and tip your waiter).

re: Calling all Traders
i sold LULU condors this afternoon..
252.5/257.5 calls and 207.5/202.5 put

expiring 30 days.

goals this quarter is minimize the "excitement" and wasting $$ with lotto trades...while keeping that precious 1% rolling in everyday just from theta.

selling overprised 01-10 deltas before earning announcements that expire roughly in 30-40 days seems to a comfortable niche for me.

anyone sell naked strangles?
supposedly the most profitable option play long term....but having that potential infinite risk to upside.. i'm still too big of a sissy
