Pre-certified and I shop with same salesperson. If not pre-certified I really know the salesperson.
We don't purchase/lease new

It’s what people do because not everyone has tens of thousands of dollars put away for a car. And it doesn’t mean they are poor or irresponsible or a dumbass.
Stop thinking you’re better than everyone because you don’t believe in paying 3% APR on a depreciable asset.

OP & Brother anc in this thread are in poor shape.
I’d love to hear his excuse for the rates buyers get for Tacoma’s with 140K miles or F250’s with 120K.
The issue is he’s so far divorced from reality when it comes to things like auto finance that he isn’t aware of what’s going on today. He’s gone way too far down the Brother Dave rabbit hole so to speak. Sounds like he’s done well for himself. I’m happy from him.
But he’s ill informed here.

It’s a Cadillac which makes the story even more ridiculous. It’s the only vehicle with an infotainment system named Cue. OP got a ragged out Caddy.

OP scammed himself. Ricky Barnes barely had to show up.

Yup.
He was in and out before my parents even got back into the car.
We were naive trusting this man who was a self proclaimed preacher. Then he had the audacity to act like he was doing us a solid by holding the car for us over night.. On his website he had the car listed 1k more than the craigslist price. Obviously no one was paying the money he was asking for a car with numerous issues.
It's a lesson learned. I will never trust another "nice guy." I know it's still on us. He has zero integrity though. Why should he..
I appreciate everyone's response in here. I knew we were stupid to trust him, but we were truly in a jam without a vehicle and we needed a car quickly. I think a good practice when buying a used vehicle would be to take it straight to a mechanic you trust to inspect it.
Slick Rick is a POS though. I would rather deal with a straight up A-hole than a guy who pretends to be nice and is fake.
