No, it means he did pay in bitcoin.

But did Wiki actually exchange bitcoin for a room?

Maybe he did, but if he used a proxy service he didn't.

Nope, it means his bitcoins were sent to the "proxy service", whom converted them to USD to pay the merchants, after taking their fee.

He paid in USD, in the most inconvenient way imaginable. Might as well have paid in Wampum.

Jeezus H Josh, I'm beginning to wonder if he even knows how a proxy works. The Hilton Maui didn't get bitcoin deposited into their account. I can assure you that.

I know he doesn't know how it works, or he wouldn't have made such a stupid argument.

Bitfash -- buy clothes with your bitcoins

quote:

Bitfash charges a small fee for connecting clients and the retailers through its site. It works by accepting bitcoins from a buyer, then exchanges that money for US dollars to pass on to the retailer. Its website does not store any credit card data, bitcoin addresses or bitcoin keys. It ships to USA, Canada, Europe and Asia – including Australia – and delivery times vary from about two days to two weeks.

But this week Bitfash has a zero transaction fee sale in the leadup to the annual bitcoin conference being held on May 17 in San Jose, California.

Bitfash co-founder Keyur Kelkar says their idea sprung from the problem that there are a lot of people out there who have made a lot of money investing in bitcoins but have nowhere to spend it. .

Expect more brands to appear on the site in coming months. Kelkar says: “Bitfash plans to expand in coming months to significantly broaden its list of high fashion retailers.”

Experts will be quick to point out that this estimate is flawed, since no FLOPS are actually used in bitcoin mining. FLOPS stands for FLoating-point Operations Per Second, and is frequently used as a standard to measure computer speed.

Bitcoin mining uses an integer calculation and almost no floating-point operations, so converting bitcoin network speed to this standard is somewhat clumsy.

You are soooooo desperate!

if you don't live in New Mexico and have a small business, I guess you wouldn't have a reason to do business with them

Soooo...a proxy service right?

For the record, I'm not bashing proxy services, I think they're a good idea and might help bitcoin survive. But I don't think it's fair to claim that these are bitcoin denominated consumer transactions.

It's nice to know that your patronage is the be-all-end-all for a businesses legitimacy.

I'm with you. I don't think proxy services should "count" in the whole bitcoin economy dick measuring contest, however, I also don't think they should be ignored.

They serve a purpose of bridging the gap....to show merchants that there is a market out there for bitcoin purchases, which will hopefully encourage merchants to just accept bitcoins directly.

As someone who owns and has provided venture capital for many successful small businesses, my opinion on this subject carries significantly more weight than yours.
