I have had the Barclay mastercard for about 6 years. I get 2 miles for gas, travel related purchases (flight, hotel, car), and a few other things. I get 1 mile for every dollar on all other purchases. At the time when I got the card it had a bonus of like 70k miles after the first 5k dollars spent.

On the barclay card you can redeem your miles for travel approved purchases at about $100/10,000 miles.

I strictly use it for business purchases and accumulate miles for free family vacations.

Looking for a better card. I spend around 10k-30k per month on the card.

I can pay the balance each month if needed for a AMEX or another.... would just have to be worth it.

Suggestions? Most travel reward cc websites list Capital One Venture card as the best... but only because you get 2 miles per dollar on all purchases...

Sorry if already posted... i searched.

Amex Platinum is up there if you can stomach the upfront fee and you travel.

You get 4X travel points. I thought at one point it was 5X.

I’m a big proponent of the Amex Platinum. I’ve used it a ton for lounges, points, etc. Many others offer similar rewards but the experience has been seamless. I had an account from 2012-2017. Close it and recently reopened. I wasn’t traveling from 2017-2019 to be worth the fee.

Are you looking to get rewards towards flights specifically, or just rewards towards travel in general? If the latter, then I would go with the Venture card. If flying, I would get a card for whatever airline you typically fly.

Venture definitely isn't the answer. Most people (myself included) would say Chase Sapphire Reserve, 3x on travel/food which is huge spending for most, and you can redeem those points at 1.5 for travel, grocery, or home improvement purchases, either booking through Chase or retroactively like the Venture. Can transfer points to multiple Airlines, hotels as well to get occasionally amazing values (especially at Hyatt or international business class). Included lounge access, global entry, rental car insurance, and Lyft Pink membership. A lot of these obviously don't mean as much in COVID times. The annual fee is $550 which is tough to stomach for some people, but $300 is immediately refunded for any travel purchase (even parking or gas), and you'll get 60K points for sign up bonus so anyone can get value. Amex Platinum is great for most of the above benefits as well but their earning and redeeming is too complicated to get value for the average person IMO.

THe only time I travel is for vacation and pleasure. I need a card that gets the most rewards towards all travel cost...

I dont travel (other than fuel cost) for work. All of the purchases on the card will be for materials, equipment, and some other business related items.

Typically travel in general. Basically I'm wanting the best card so i can use it for free vacations for the family or qt with the trophy wife. Hotels and flights mainly. I dont rent a car often.

Misread this as per year. If you’re going to be putting this much then definitely avoid Venture. I’d probably second the Chase Reserve Card or something similar to it.

Spending that much, I'd say either Sapphire Reserve or AMEX Platinum. The problem with AMEX is you need to book travel through them. This wouldn't work if you're travelling for business and have to book through their service, for example.

Great guide:

This has been discussed a good bit on this board and the travel board. Most people prefer Chase Sapphire with CO Venture and AMEX a distant 2nd and 3rd.

You really need to look at each and see what’s best for you and your situation. I’ve had a venture card for years now and have no complaints. Very flexible which I like.

I have a Chase Sapphire Reserve and a Chase Freedom Unlimited. The Freedom gets 1.5 on all purchases, but you can transfer those points to the Reserve ultimate rewards account. You then can transfer those points to partners or book through Chase for travel as already mentioned. So I use the Reserve for travel and dining purchases and the Freedom for everything else. There might be a Chase business card (Ink maybe?) that you should look into to maximize your points earnings, then transfer those points to the Reserve.

I had mentioned in OP that I had a Barclay card. Its technically a Barclay arrival + card. Not currently on the market.

Im currently getting the following
2x miles on all purchases
$100/10000 miles travel statement credit.

Some of the cards mentioned get better credits to miles ($100/7500 miles) But they only get 1.5 miles per dollar spent. Some of them have different ways you can use them, like only using through the chase or AMEX website for travel.

My Barclay is simple. Anything that is classified as travel can earn a travel credit against the statement. It works for all flights, hotels, and car rental. It doesn't work for VRBO or other similar travel because those are booked through a property management company or individual.

Barclay also wouldn't let me get credit for more than 2000 dollars per item in redemption. So If I have a trip that cost 4k... Ill need to split it into 2 transactions so I can get full credit.

It really looks like i should stay with the Barclay card I have.

Am I missing something?
