The three massive companies will launch an independent outfit initially targeting technology solutions, with the intention to be an umbrella firm that would be "free from profit-making incentives."

I have been thinking extensively about the healthcare industry and how it is rife with inefficiency and waste. Good for them taking it on, it’s going to take a lot of money and more importantly reteaching.

Could be a game changer for the "for-profit" healthcare companies.

How so? This barely moves the needle in my opinion. They have no actual plan in place, if something does come to fruition, it will affect roughly 1 million people. Completely overzealous market reaction to something that may be years down the road, if ever.

I agree. They’re obviously looking to expand this model, but it’ll be a while before there is mass abandonment of for-profit companies.

But what model are they advocating for? I’m sure there are solutions out there, but not sure how companies that only encompass a million domestic workers will be able to achieve the economies of scale necessary to make this a worthwhile venture.

They want to do healthcare without profit?

They won’t impact the entire market but it would be easy for a few large companies to save major $$$ with an independent system.

Hire your own doctors and build a small hospital.

Remove the greedy insurance companies.

Profit.

This cracks me up.

This operation is an attempt to cut medical benefit costs for these three large companies. Which, don't get me wrong, I think is awesome. I wish them luck. But this has everything to do with reducing their medical costs.

That’s the point? But if they reduce their own costs, then it could lead to other companies doing the same and driving competition.

Right.........but how do you service your million employees over a very large geographic space? It's not like these employees are concentrated in an area. The costs to build these hospitals would be astronomical and if you're only serving a small portion of the population, how do you even break even?

Rite Aid seems like a decent play at $2/share. Would be sweet if Amazon acquired them

It might lead to other companies doing the same... but not many companies have the reach of these three.

I'm all in favor of this... I just find it funny that they mention that profit is not a motive. Well of course for them that is correct. But it is for companines that are all in medical.
