My brother in law has an interview with them. I work in HR for a large company in BR so he asked if I knew anyone that has come from ibm. I told him that I have heard many bad things about the company, but it was all 2nd hand knowledge. I haven't talked to anyone directly employed by ibm. I think he applied for a sap type job and is expecting to make over 70k first year oUT of college. I found that hard to believe, but I have no clue. I told him if the salary is that high out of college take it regardless of company reputation.

I know several people who worked there- all had bad experiences and left. It was described as a "sweatshop" type environment...

I never worked there but was contacted by some people at one point trying to get me to work there. It sounded like a gig where they'd bring in fairly low experienced people and have me dealing with training them well enough to produce hours. Even the recruiter made it sound like a sweat shop. The offices looked like a digital sweat shop.
If he isn't married/kids it's probably not a bad idea just to get a couple of years of experience. If he'll be working in corporate settings for his career he'll always be dealing with IBM and their god awful expensive products.

I haven't heard anything great about working there. $70K right out of college is probably too high. I'd say more likely in the $50-$60K range. Developer salaries really start to rise around year 5.

It all depends on your field and location.
In consulting it's not uncommon to make 80+ starting out of college. Same thing with developers. If you went a good college - you can easily make 90k+ out of college.
IBM will pay well for some of their positions. For example - IBM consulting will overpay compared to Big 4 because their trying to sway kids from going to the Big 4. My IBM and Microsoft consulting offers were higher than Big 4 offers out of college.

I assume its IGS. I have heard first hand its a chop shop, and they have crazy high turnover. the thing is you can go there and get a years experience, and then bolt. That is very common, and they know it.
70k for SAP implementer sounds pretty low actually. Depends on travel.
