How much are you bringing in via sales?

I just finished my first one for the iPhone. I was told by a friend that it would be best to stick with the iPhones since Chinese hackers are hacking the android apps on the reg.

My goal is 25-50 apps this year.

I'll probably submit it tonight or tomorrow to the App Store and watch my 3-4 downloads a week roll in.

..or I could just sell it for a cool mil and only have to sell one or two a year.

An engineering one..

I have a bunch of other ideas ready to roll out. Now that I finished the first, I can move to the next.

It sucked when I thought I was done, but I had to upgrade to the latest version of Xcode to be able to install it on my own phone for final testing.

Once I upgraded, I basically had to rebuild the UI because the newest version jacked up my layout.

I had to adjust it a 3rd time due to the actual iPhone not liking my layout even though it worked in the iOS simulator.

Finishing the first should definitely speed up the apps that will follow.

Since the apps I will be designing will be a 1x purchase, I will need a shitload of these engineering apps to make decent money.

I'm gearing my ideas toward students and professionals.

What kind of "engineering" app? I'm wondering if I may be interested.

I've looked into developing some apps, but you can't do it on a Windows machine. I'd love to develop some for various specific purposes.

I bought a used MacBook Pro on eBay just to do this..

This one is a voltage drop app that works for 0-2000V for Single or 3 phase that also derates cable ampacity base on ambient temperature.

Both NEC and IEC standard cables are included in the app making it usable for those overseas.

There are a bunch out there but I made this one as user friendly as possible.

Once it's in the App Store I'll post the name. It should take about a week to get approved and put in the store.

Worst case is you guys give it a 5* rating..

Chemistry app coming up.. It's gonna be a PITA setting up the UI for chemical equations.

I'll have everything sketched out before starting.

$0.99 for this one.

Most of these engineering style apps I design will be $0.99.

I need to run it on a 4S, a 5 and an iPad to see if there are any issues before I submit it. It works perfect on a 4.

Know a guy on another forum that pulled in 50k+ on the side developing app games. There's definitely money to be made

The goal is to have some money coming in before I devote the time it'll take to design a game..

I need to create something addictive with in-app purchases.

I don't know if you've done any research but I've read an article similar to the one below. Essentially the top 1% of apps make over 1/3 of the money in the market and the overwhelming majority of that 1% are games.

I think he put out a ton of games but hit it big with one of them. I think that's what people do...pump out a ton of apps and hope to hit it big with one.

I'm trying to test my app on an iPad to make sure the layout looks correct, but my iPad isn't getting recognized by my macbook when I plug it into a USB port.

It won't event charge it.

Anyone know the problem?

Did you have a prior programming background? How hard is it to learn Xcode? Can somebody with no computer science or programming background pick it up?

XCode is rather easy to understand once get a handle on the basics.

It's background is C and most have had some intro at some point.

As far as game programming is concerned, I still have a long way to go.

Normal USB ports don't have the juice to power an ipad I think

Not positive on macs though

Does it not have any power? (Battery dead?)

Do you have the charging brick for an iPad?

The little iPhone power cubes won't charge ipad either, or they'll do it extremely slowly

He's anti Apple.

The small cubes that come with the iPhones will charge iPad's but will take 2x longer due to the output limitation.
