Amazon launching their own delivery service
so i guess shorting ups/fedex would have been smart

quote:

- Amazon will launch a package-delivery service called "Shipping with Amazon," or SWA, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal.
- The service will compete directly with UPS and FedEx.
- SWA will roll out in Los Angeles over the next few weeks and then spread to other cities in the US over the course of the year.

Called this for a while. Know someone who landed one of the amazon delivery contracts. I wonder if they will start offering shipping services outside of just amazon

I assume this ends all of the Nexus craziness with Amazon? Not a third party carrier so they'll just start collecting tax everywhere right?

re: Amazon launching their own delivery service
will this kill the USPS?

Amazon is their biggest customer and basically the only thing keeping them afloat

I'd imagine they may have to outsource for a while until they are able to handle everything in house.

While extreme, what if FedEx / USPS / UPS stopped delivering Amazon packages?

I guess collusion is difficult and illegal so there is that barrier

I don't see it any different than all the major airlines magically changing their policies around the same time

Difference here is they can't put Amazon out of business mainly because they can sustain without their own shipping.

This should help USPS since it loses money on each Amazon package delivered.

But the slow bleedout for USPS will continue.

Long FDX and UPS. Amazon can't hang and are a very low % of revenues for these two.

Are they going to use part-time people in their own private planes like they do for a lot of home deliveries? Just kidding but, I'm not sure that many of the people making deliveries in their privately owned vehicles know how much it costs them to operate their cars.

Are they still going to hand off to USPS for the last mile? It's hard for anyone to compete with government subsidized service.

Amazon will buy every empty mall to use as a warehouse and delivery terminal. I hear Cortana is for sales for 1.5 million.

They don't already do this? Almost all Amazon packages I order with same day, Saturday or Sunday delivery are delivered by people in personal vehicles. I just assumed they worked directly for Amazon.

Surprised this didn't happen a long time ago.

Imagine how much Amazon loses on Item Not Received claims right now. This gives the control - as well as proof that they delivered it to the right place.

I think this will be more formal. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. I can't imagine it would be much cheaper to deliver on your own vs. contracting w/ FedEx/UPS/USPS. Amazon must be trying to enter that market and compete
