I have been looking for a way to earn some additional income. I have been thinking of investment properties but don't know if I want to take that big of risk/deal with the hassle. Any ideas? Uber is out of the question because it doesn't make sense when you drive a truck. TIA

I'm about to start a side business with facebook marketing and shopify's eCommerce storefront platform. Still in the research phase right now but as soon as I gather enough stats and figures on ROI and demand, I'm going for it.

My 3 year goal is to hopefully tell the corporate world to go frick itself and finally make money on my time, and by my rules.

Good luck to you, cajun. We're both going to need it when figuring out successful additional income streams.

They do rentals for like $200 or so a week. If you drive enough, it pays for itself pretty easily. Or perhaps your spouse has a fuel efficient vehicle you could use.

I think uber requires you to be the owner of the car. I am sure there is a way around it but not into doing anything illegal for additional income.

I'm hearing beach condos are making a killing.

But seriously, I looked into this a couple of years ago and decided on translating documents to French (it's my first language, and I'm fluent). There were some sites that were suggested here (e.g: upwork), but after looking at it the first couple of years would have been pretty terrible until I got a good reputation and started getting the higher paying gigs. So my lazy arse just never pursued it. Probably wouldn't be doing too bad now had I started a couple of years ago.

All this to say, once you find something that looks appealing just go for it. May suck in the beginning but eventually you might be able to start earning solid additional income. Now obviously if the plan is to get rid of your main job one day, then the approach and the choice you make early are critical.

I'm looking into tutoring. With a B.S. I think I could make some pretty decent money if I tutored online/in person for 5-10 hrs per week.

I know someone who rents out their couch on airbnb and clears about $500/month. They live in a desireable location though.

I know someone who does rover and gets $250-350/month, but they hustle.

I met someone who does turo for a living. He bought 6 vehicles and rents them out. He said he clears about $5-6k/month doing it.

stop believing the BS doom and gloom people here spout off. we have had tons of educational RE threads. search for them. it is not that big a risk or hassle if you do it right and use a PM. you want risk? go day trade FOREX. i was ok at day trading until i did forex. If you want to make 100k day trading forex start with 200k!

now that IS RISK!

some people rent out their motor homes in their yards.

I was somewhat skeptical of it tbh. We discussed it for a long time. He said he quit his job in finance to do this full time. I did some research and Turo estimates how much you make on a car, and I could see it working. Sounded like a a pain in the arse though.

then it's probably legit.

It's the ones that make it sound like an idea is seamless that are full of it.

yeah probably. I know people who kill it with Airbnb though, and they say its not that much work. I met this woman who bought two houses and just rented out rooms for $25-50/night. She pays someone to clean and manage the rentals.

We are remodeling our basement and are leaning towards Airbnbing it. I think I can get about $1500/month for it.

Can you strum some chords on a guitar? Learn a little more and print some blank tab sheets and blank chord sheets.

Put up a few flyers in churches, coffee shops, and college bulletin boards. Advertise that you will travel to them and specialize in teaching beginner guitar. Make a website if you want to get serious about it.

$150/month per student for one 30 minute lesson a week. Get five and you're at $750/month minus a little bit of gas money.

What skills or hobbies do you have?
Where do you live? What’s needed around there?

In my semi-rural/peri-urban area, there is a huge need for light gardening services. Not grass mowing or edging, but hand-weeding flower beds, light hedge trimming, etc. You’d need to be basically knowledgeable about plants (ie, what’s a weed and what’s not), but you wouldn’t need many tools besides a trowel, a pair of gloves, and knees that still bend. Many lawn services do not do flower bed maintenance (or at least they don’t around here).

My parents live in a rural area, and I see a big need for “errands for the elderly”. Not necessarily driving them around, but rather for a trustworthy person who can be tasked with basic grocery shopping, picking up dry cleaning, and similar things that become difficult in rural America once you can no longer drive.df

medical marijuana.

there's money in....teaching others how to make money in .

much more predictable to sell dreams...than to actually have to do real work yourself.

there are no known "experts" right now...and could be an internet only gig.

make yourself THE legal weed guy.

not that hard..and yes, this is a serious suggestion
