It went from 282,000 two weeks ago, to 6.65 million.

I'm sure most states are doing what Kentucky is doing, letting everyone apply for Unemployment, even if they are substitute teachers and independent contractors.

Claims vs approved are 2 different things, but I would agree, it's going to get worse before it gets better.

With these numbers the unemployment rate is gonna be over 10% on next release.

I’m sure that number includes all the independent proprietors who normally wouldn’t file.

The parallels between this and the Great Depression are staggering.

Down to the liberal New York Governor running for president after the crisis and promising free money to everyone.

Friend at Hilton just got a 90 day furlough. Her department of 500 got an email notifying them all at the same time.

I suspect most of the unemployment claims up to this point are small businesses and service workers (e.g., restaurant industry) and we will soon have an influx of white collar employees getting let go.

Almost every single restaurant worker, bar worker, and lower level hospitality worker is unemployed right now.

Couple that with dentists, elective surgery, retail sales, etc....

Now employers know what they can do to get fed help and that their employees will be taken care of by the government. This shouldn’t be surprising.

Where are you looking? Futures dropped about 1.5% less than 10 min after release.

Down about 2.2% now.

1.5-2% drop is considered relatively flat these days.

Futures were up big, then dropped to flat after Jobless claims release.

Oil is up big right now, so that is offsetting the affect of the jobless claim number.
