3d printing will evolve into Science Fiction's replicators and eventually take over manufacturing. It is still in its infancy, but it will conquer its sector.

Some infants will turn into industry titans. Others will wither away. The question is who will the winners be.

DM has went up in almost a straight line ytd. I dont own any, but I've had it on a watchlist for awhile. I've been keeping up with 3d printing for my job (manufacturing) and it's really incredible how far it's come in the last decade, the metal printing side is really starting to become a thing, and that's when 3d printing starts taking off. I go to machinery conventions every year and the 3d printing sections are just getting bigger and bigger. The speed is the issue though, once you can print at a somewhat comparable rate to starting with a slab of metal and fiber lazering what you need, 3d printing will replace everything. Is that possible though? Still unclear, as they are getting so sophisticated with fiber lasers using nitrogen, im not sure that speed can be touched ever by printing,
you watch some of these machines work and wonder if someone pressed fast forward on life it's so fast(go look at some trumpf and blm lasertube videos on YouTube and have your mind blown). And nitrogen is the most abundant gas in the universe and you can get a generator installed that basically gives you infinite nitrogen for little cost.

The powder printing just takes too much effort and footprint because you have ti run parts thru a furnace. That's why I'm reluctant to buy DM. Once you can start mass producing parts, then nothing else will make sense compared to 3d printing.

We are more like halfway IMO... 3D printing been used for many years now, and used a lot already in many industries.

I saw one of the first demonstrations at SIGGRAPH back in the early 90's. It used multiple intersecting lasers fired through a liquid. It was fascinating even then.

Yeah, it will rule large parts of the manufacturing world in the not to distant future.
