It seems interest has waned a bit in our contest which is understandable.

There's not much volatility in the markets and rankings, with a few exceptions each week, are pretty stable.

I'm considering going to semi-monthly updates as of the 15th and last day of each month rather than weekly.

Would that upset anyone?

Semi-monthly at this point is probably a better idea. Honestly just Whatever works for you and you have time for.

Also if I’m a fund manager, I’m strongly considering taking my YTD 41% gains and taking the rest of the year off lol

So what’s the consensus folks? High beta stocks have ripped since Christmas.

Tough to justify heavy buying right here right now. Man what a difference a quarter can make!

I usually check in, but don’t always post. I’m good with twice a month. Really whatever is easiest for you. Thanks again for keeping up with all of this.

Below is an update as of the last day in April. I'll post the next update as of May 15. Of course, if there is an extremely volatile day (as in a big DOWN day ) I'll post an update before then.

As you would expect, there were not a lot of significant changes in the rankings since this update only encompasses two trading days since the last update.

Performance results updated through close of trading on Tuesday, April 30.

The number to the right of your YTD % was your ranking last Friday, April 26. The percentage number to the right of your previous ranking number was what your YTD performance percent was the last update.

Biggest improvement in ranking: PlanoPrivateer, who moved up +8 places from #30 to #22.

Biggest drop in ranking: shared by two players, DynaMike, who fell -8 places from #20 to #28, and Dandaman, who also dropped -8 places from #24 to #32.

Best improvement in YTD performance percent since the last update: papz, our 1st place leader, who strengthened his hold on first place by seeing his YTD performance improve by +4.26%.

Worst decline in YTD performance percent since the last update: Dandaman, who saw his YTD performance decline by -2.42%.

All contestants continue to have a positive YTD performance percent.

Why would my VERY close friend TT1234 pick TUP for the contest one might wonder.

Well those picks are all from the Greenbalt "Magic Formula Investing" stock website.

It sounds cheesy I know but the logic Joel Greenbalt uses seem pretty sounds. LINK

He is a value investor and portfolio manager. He wrote "The Little Book That Beats the Market".

He did all this research about beating market index funds and proved that selecting a basket of stocks are the cheapest in terms of EBIT/enterprise value and have the highest returns in terms of EBIT/(net fixed assets + working capital). His book outlines the historical returns of this strategy and it does beat the S&P500 index over time.

To utilize his system he wants you to buy 20+ stocks that fit the criteria and hold them one year. At the end of the year he wants you to sell them all and do it again. The holding period happens to be when your investments qualify for long term capital gains.

The link above filters the stocks on a daily basis that meet the criteria.

TUP got into the contest because of the $500 million market cap criteria. All of the stocks in TT1234'S portfolio are magic formula stocks.

It is an interesting concept.

I have a small live portfolio based on it but it does not have a $500 million market cap floor. It has 21 stocks in it--all with equal dollars initially invested. Today that portfolio is up only about 9% YTD vs 16% for the index. It will be interesting to see how it makes out the rest of the year.

Greenbalt also says to test it for three years as there is no 3 year period the index out performed the margic formula strategy.

There were significant changes in the rankings since our last update on May 1, especially on the leadership board. While papz and WPBTiger remained #1 and #2 respectively, Vols&Shaft83 jumped to #3 from #19 and Zilla moved into #4 from #12.

Performance results updated through close of trading on Wednesday, May 15.

The number to the right of your YTD % was your ranking from our last update, May 1. The percentage number to the right of your previous ranking number was what your YTD performance percent was on the last update.

Biggest improvement in ranking: The aforementioned Vols&Shaft83 improved his ranking the most moving up +16 places from #19 to #3.

Biggest drop in ranking: arkiebrian falling -25 places from #10 to #35 and who saw significant drops in YTD performance in INTC, CHK and FCX.

Best improvement in YTD performance percent this update: Who else, but Vols&Shaft83 whose YTD performance increased by +10.95% from 26.78% up to 37.73% benefiting from ROKU's almost unbelievable YTD performance of +172.00% which was an improvement of over +60% in YTD performance since our last update.

Worst decline in YTD performance percent this update: leoj saw his performance decline by -14.26% from 35.75% down to 21.49%. The decline caused him to fall -16 places in the rankings from #6 to #22.

The Best Performing Stock YTD of our 151 companies continues to be ROKU, a TV streaming company, which has a YTD performance of +172.00%!! Vols&Shaft83 is the only player with ROKU in his stock picks.

The Worst Performing Stock YTD is WTRH, (Waitr Holdings, food delivery), which is down -27.00% YTD. FunroePete is the only player with WTRH in his five picks.

All contestants continue to have a positive YTD performance percent.
