I just fell victim to the buyout SNAFU. FDC is up over 20% today on buyout by FISERV. FISERV is down YTD - Boo.

Yeah, I agree with you, that sucks. I'm still trying to figure out how to remedy merger/buyout situations which would be fair to everyone.

Any suggestions?

Nah, I don't have a ready solution to the buyout tracking and I understand the rule.

Funny thing is I shied away from AUPH this year even though it stayed above the $5M threshhold because I was afraid it was a buyout candidate. Didn't see this one (FDC) coming.

Off Topic, Russian . . . I spent Christmas in St Petersburg. It was a fabulous time. Couldn't help but think of you while enjoying the vodka and caviar

St. Petersburg is, by far, my favorite Russian city. I worked in St. Petersburg a total of about 4 months over the 5 year time period I worked in Russia.

I hope you got a chance to spend some time at the Hermitage Museum. I'm usually not a big museum guy but I thoroughly enjoyed the Hermitage. I went through it 3 or 4 times and I still didn't see all of the exhibits.

When does your impending market collapse occur this year? It was a bold statement, so you’re not getting out of this one.

2400?!?!

This market will be in the 1800's next spring

1300's end of next year / into 2020

Duly noted. But I won’t turn this thread into the “Lurking Issues” thread.

Several times over the past couple of weeks you've said that the "rally" is not sustainable until the banks lead the way.

The large banks have been up big the last two days with Goldman having its best percentage up day in a decade, up almost 10% just today.

Bank of America is up over 7% just today.

And JPM is up about 3% the last two days in spite of missing its projected quarterly EPS yesterday.

So......

You'd think with these dire predictions he'd have a more defensive portfolio in his Top 5 Pick 'em Contest. I suppose he will recover when we hit the 1300's later in 2019.

The average stock is up close to 13% since Christmas Eve. Half this rally from then was in one day. Wave 2 counter trend bounces are normally strong. This is not surprising one bit. What’s the point? GS was down 30-40% off the highs. Do you know how counter trend bounces work? Get back to me when GS FULLY recovers.

Financials and Transports are still underperforming which is signaling weakness. You familiar with Dow Theory?

Yeah XLF had a nice couple of days. Let’s see if they can keep it going. I highly doubt it.

VZ and NVS are defensive stocks. Your point is....?

I don’t have time to review what happened off the lows on 12/24, but YTD XLF is outperforming SPY by 2.35%. Financials seem to be on track for a monster quarter as evidenced by the bigs who already posted.

JPM missed EPS by a bit, but beat revenue expectations. For someone who is a market skeptic, you should pay attention to that. Can’t fake the very top line.

Wow! You've made some really, really inaccurate statements on this board recently but this one wins the prize!!

The biggest up day since December 24 was on December 26 when the DJ was up over 1,000 points and the SPX us was up over 100 points. And they were up 4.75% and 4.73% respectively.

Is 4.75% half of 13%?? You continue to prove you suck at math....

(ETA: I just fact checked your 13% number and it's wrong, too. The SPX is up 11.7% since Christmas Eve.)

So now you're saying when you kept repeating that the financials needed to lead the market higher what you really meant was the financials would have to exceed their all-time highs before you were convinced this rally is genuine??

You really are a charlatan.

My point is if the sky doesn't fall you will stay at the bottom. To each his own. The only right answers are not known until 12/31/19.

A true sky is falling portfolio would typically include utilities, consumer staples, health care stocks. All with strong balance sheets.

After reviewing your picks I'd say you've stayed within your defensive theme. You do remain defensive with a precious metals miner, a petrochemical/ammunitions, and an equipment rental co. However, after VZ and NVS the financial strength of your picks fall off.

I, on the other hand, will be at the bottom of the barrel with my picks if your market predictions come true as I have a couple financially vulnerable picks in the litter. I just don't think the markets will tank.
