Pretty good 4th quarter from that guy. He was good.

The Ole Miss offensive line telling the student section to get louder only to false start twice in a row was some of the best stuff I’ve seen in tiger stadium.

Yes, we were sitting in Bear’s Grill in Shreveport about to walk out when LSU started making their move. Seemed like only 6 minutes or less left in game and down couple scores or so. Stayed for the end and drank to the comeback

The Ole Miss HC had his boys ready to play that night! And damn near pulled off the huge upset! I wonder what ever happened to that guy.

Smh. Should have never needed a comeback because Ole Miss was terrible. They barely squeaked out 4 wins that year with close victories against Memphis, Vandy, and Mississippi State.

Game wasn't on national TV IIRC (or maybe just a channel I didn't have), so I had been following via ESPN gamecast. When we went into OT, I convinced my then-GF to drive around listening to the WWL broadcast cutting in and out.

I remember that game whenever Jamarcus just threw the ball like 50 yards down the field on a scramble and Early Doucet comes out of nowhere and catches the ball over two ole miss DBs

ETA: I found the play I was talking about

That game should've never been in doubt. Thanks, Les.

My memory is this was one of those games I lucked into great seats. I was so excited for that. Then we start playing crappu and LSU folks are disappearing rapidly. The more that disappear, the louder a CEO of a large corporation got. He was an Ole Miss grad. He was sloppy drunk slurring about kicking our arse. Then we started putting it together and he sat there quietly staring. All his friends had left him. By the time we came back, I was happy to sit there quietly nodding my head at his arse. Didn't have to say a think and he was honestly shedding tears. Grear memory.

I was in the student section and there were a couple 40 year olds complaining about JaMarucs’s play saying “where’s the first round draft pick?” On that final drive I was in their fricking ear “there’s the first round pick right there assholes!”

Looking at this game objectively, OM played almost perfectly.

A slow start for both teams, then LSU goes up by 7 a minute into the 2nd quarter.

LSU had the ball just one time between then and 12:00 left in the third.

TD Ole Miss
Onside Kick
TD Ole Miss
LSU Punt
Missed FG Ole Miss
Made FG Ole Miss

After that, LSU still couldn't get it together. After the miracle scramble/pass to Doucet. LSU was at the OM 35 and turned it over on downs. On 3rd down, Russell missed a wide-open Davis (I mean, he had no one within 20 yards of him)

LSU got the ball back and cut it to 6.

Their next possession, with 5 minutes left, and a first and 10 on the OM 34:

Russell missed an open Davis by about 10 yards out of bounds.
Russell scrambles and throws it at Lafell's feet. Dropped pass.
Russell takes a sack, fumbles, and LSU recovers.
LSU punts.

The team stepped up and won, but this game was a clear example of what made Russell so frustrating to watch. He could make some incredible plays, but he had zero awareness.

Watched this game on Tigervision. Couldn’t believe we had to make a comeback to beat them. They were horrible back then. We should have won the game in regulation but the XP was blocked I believe?

JR won a lot of games for us in the last minute. Doesn't get enough credit for that.

Maybe, if by "a lot of games", you mean 1-2 games. He also arguably lost us at least ome game (Florida). Depends on what Flynn would have in each same situation.

Lot more than that. Arizona State '05, Tenn '06, Ole Miss '06, Bama '05, and more.

I was at that game. Sloppy game on both sides. In true LSU and Jamarcus fashion we didn’t play until we had to w/ our backs against the wall he led us down for a 4th n goal TD with under 1 min to go.

Patrick Willis played pretty well and I think Greg hardy was in that ole miss team also

We lucked out with the block vs Arizona State and JR got a lucky break when he fumbled vs the Vols and the refs blew the call.
O out coached Les in 2006.
I’m not sure why anyone starts these threads. It alway results in rehashing the obvious squeakers during Les’ tenure from his many shortcomings. .

That play by Jamarcus was Joe Burrow-esque.

Because he was the reason we were in those holes for a lot of them. Especially '06 Tennessee he couldn't stop throwing picks in the first half and then came out after halftime and immediately threw another one before he finally calmed down and we gutted it out at the very end.

I give him credit for pulling the wins out but on the same token you can't just ignore why we were in those holes to begin with.
