Would Nick Fitzgerald be a good comparison to Sam Ehlinger?

I haven’t watched Texas that much besides from the Maryland and Georgia games so I really have not seen Sam Ehlinger play very often. Obviously he is better than Nick Fitz because Nick would sometimes have games where he couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat. That being said, should the defensive game plan be similar to what it was against Mississippi State last year? The rain definitely helped, but we did an excellent job last year slowing down State’s run game and forcing them into passes that they didn’t want to make.

ETA: I’m not saying that the two are alike, I was asking if their play styles were similar at all because I haven’t seen Ehlinger play much. Not sure what all the downvotes are for.

Similar but I think Ehlinger runs a little bit harder and is a slightly better passer.

Nah
He’s like a Tim Tebow that can throw. Not saying he’s as good as Tebow was as a college QB, but it’s a better comparison imo.

Ehlinger is ten times the passer of Nick, and I think Nick was a better runner. Honestly I don’t think they are that similar at all.

Nah Ehlinger can throw man. He is a legit when it comes to the pass game. Fitzgerald sucked horribly. Awful is an understatement.

Tebow’s the best comparison.

I actually think he’s better than Tebow. He just doesn’t have the same amount of talent around him that Tebow had at Florida.

Downvote away...

Sam is a better passer by far. More moxie too.

Also, Fitzgerald turned the ball over 4 times against us in one game last year.

Both Burrow and Ehlinger made it almost halfway through the season without an interception.

Nick could not pass.
Ehlinger can not run like Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald could get 4-5 yds out of nothing.

Fitzgerald was a pretty terrible passer, I would say Ehlinger is much better there.

On the flip side Fitzgerald is definitely a better runner than Ehlinger. He's not only a better battering ram type but he also had some serious speed for a guy that size to break some big runs.

JMO but Ehlinger's running ability is vastly overrated. Burrow was better than Ehlinger last season running the ball overall. I would say Burrow is a decent runner but nothing special. Ehlinger racks up a lot of TDs because Herman doesnt use a RB close to goal line for whatever reason.

Ehlinger is probably a better passer and isn’t quite as big but the offense under Herman and Mullen are fairly similar.

Nobody should be taking this game lightly.

I think Fitz playing so poorly against LSU last season makes us think differently of him. He was up and down. Honestly think its a good comp but I like Ehlinger more

Fitzgerald was more like Matt Jones of Arkansas than Ehlinger.

The big 12 for the most part plays soft zone. I went back and watched some of the Texas games from last year. He made some nice plays but Christ his receivers were wide arse open most of the time. We are going to play mad heavy and alot of nickle against them with Kary Vincent as the NB. I think we get at least 1 pick in the game.

Ehlinger can actually throw the ball. Nick was not a passer. Nick was a better runner.

No, no he wasnt He was just down

Fitz 2018 stats

51.6%--147 yards/game--16 tds--9 ints

He was fricking horrific at passing

Ehlinger by comparison

64%--235 yards/game--25 tds--5 int

quote:

Honestly think its a good comp
Still think that?

Fitz was a running back that sometimes threw the ball. Ehlinger is a QB that sometimes runs the ball

They are honestly nothing alike

That is an understatement. Pretty sure Fitzgerald did not even cross the 50% threshold last year.

Fitzgerald was a career 54.2% passer

Last year was a bad fit situation. Moorehead even admires he tried to fit his offense I stead of his players.
