With respect to players leaving early shouldn't we expect coaching decisions soon?

Soon but I can’t see anything being worked out of Christmas weekend. Probably early next week if I had to guess things will start taking shape.

Not that you’re suggesting otherwise, but I think the getting the right coach is significantly more important than the timing to announce it. And most of the coaches O is gonna want to interview are likely still with their teams, either college or the NFL. I’m sure a list has been made of potential candidates and either O is casually reaching out to them to gauge their interest or Woodward and/or Ponamski and/or some of the TAF guys are reaching out to candidates’ agents to do the same.

And there may be some structural things in their contracts where their buyouts are less after January 1st. As far as recruiting the upperclassmen to come back, I bet that started the Sunday after Ole Miss. He can do a good job of that without knowing who the OC and DC are gonna be. He can sell them on the vision he has for each of them, no matter the coordinator on their side of the ball.

And we only have like 4 spots left to fill in this ‘21 class. I’m sure he’s working them like crazy. I don’t know the new rules in a post-COVID and early signing period world, but in the past, HCs were able to do more in-homes if they didn’t have all 10 assistant positions filled. Maybe he’s looking to take advantage of that and selling the recruits and their parents on him, LSU, and the vision he has for them. Convince them of that, and then after the new coordinators are hired, O can take them, and the player’s position coach to get more specific about their vision for them, answer any questions, and hopefully close the deal.

You mentioned January 15–is that the last days guys have to declare for the draft? You’re right, that’s not a lot of time. But if there are lists for potential replacements, and O and whomever have done their due diligence with putting out feelers, they should be able to interview next week and the week after if necessary, and announce around the 1st week of January at the latest. Or who knows, they may announce it this Monday.

tl;dr—take your time getting the best—and right—coaches. Not worth it to rush some “meh” hires just to try to convince some current guys to come back and some recruits to sign. No guarantee anybody we hire would even make a difference.

Okay, I’m in the dark on this. What’s this about?

If it’s not Nielson, then I’m guessing we’ll have to see if Freeman is on board after their Jan 2 bowl game. If not him, I expect Brad White to be the guy, at which point an announcement would shortly come after the Jan 2.
As far as OC and PGC, I think it’ll be Calloway and Munoz and imagine once they’ve done their due diligence to interview other names for OC they’ll be able to announce that in the next week. I believe they’re already gonna give PGC to Munoz, just waiting to pull the trigger on Calloway for OC.
