All the debate about 9 wins being good this year or bleh/bad/disappointing.... I honestly don’t know how we won 9 games and had 10 stolen. Not that we got lucky , but I think 9 wins THIS SEASON was a really good accomplishment. I think we forget how the 2014-2015 and part of 2016 were lame duck seasons for Miles, and although recruiting was good it definitely fell off. Name ONE offensive player in this team that is definitely a Top 3 round draft pick. First season in years LSU didn’t have an offensive player that could take it to the house at any given time. New OC, New QB, young offensive line. Those are facts , and our talent Jr and Sr wise was down this year on offense more than any year in recent memory. AND our worst run defense in 10 years. Yet we win 9 games and will be in a NY6/former BCS bowl.

Definitely something to build on for next year, which could be special....

This year looked special... until LSU got blanked by Alabama, stumbled against Arkansas and lost to A&M.

The offense was terrible all year. The defense and special teams carried LSU to a 9 win season, again, even though this exact style of play got Les Miles fired.

Good take, but be careful. A lot of fans don't want to give the program any credit because it doesn't fit their narrative.

10-2 is the standard. O hasn’t met that standard in either of his first two seasons.

His hiring of E is the same “in your face, I’ll do what I want” attitude that got Les fired.

What we are witnessing is not success or improvement; it’s only repeated attempts to lower the standards for Orgeron. It was so predictable.

Our schedule looked a lot more daunting in August than it does now.

Auburn and Miami aren't that good. We went 2-3 against the best competition, Bama, UGA, UF, Miss. St., and A&M.

We played ND in a meaningless NYD bowl last year. They are in the playoffs and we are in another meaningless NYD game. Yep we did awesome this year.

There's a whole truckload of excuses in the OP's post.

Pollsters / prognosticators thought we’d go 6-7 in part because O is our coach.

O wasn’t as bad as predicted and we won a badass game against UGA, got revenge against MSU, and held strong at AU. I was celebrating. And I was hopeful.

But O also coached us down to losses against inferior UF and A&M teams. That pisses me off.

So, yes, our season was better than expected (because expectations were low). And for you that’s good enough. For me, I want us to win those games that we SHOULD win, against rebuilding Gators and Aggies. (And, you know, score points against Alabama.)

I WANT O to be a great coach. This season he wasn’t. He was as good as Miles might have been. And we should do better. I have nothing to gain from O not succeeding. I simply can imagine a BETTER LSU team than what he’s giving us.

at least in 2018 the team has progressed back to where it was in 2012 and 2013 and those kind of teams, after falling off in 2014 and 2015. Now in 2019 we will see if we can take that next step and continue to improve and get to an even higher level.

NO one is saying the 2018 season is the end all be all of where we want the program to ultimately be.

UF and A&M aren't weak teams, we played them on the road and, to be fair, the refs had a lot to say about the outcome of the A&M game. The refs call that game any where close to fairly and we are 11-2 right now and everyone is calling this a great season. Not where we ultimately want to be but much better than anything we have seen here in a long time.

Orgeron has opened things up by passing more. LSU is just not very good at it, but the attempts are there unlike during Miles' last two seasons.

It's still not nearly good enough, but it is different. Miles stayed the same even though he knew he was in trouble.

Simply stated, the lack of attempts is what made it so hard to get QBs.

Again, you can be content losing to a team that Missouri blew out and content blaming the refs. A decent offense and we don’t have to be content.

And to be clear, this isn’t much better than what we’ve seen. This is literally the same thing we’ve seen. For years.

To summarize: I want O to succeed. I want any and every LSU coach to succeed. The difference in opinion here is what you and I count as success. You’re okay with more of the same (and think it’s different) while I’m not (and I don’t).
