He’s right in this age of college basketball. Because of the transfer rules your roster is going to significantly turnover from year to year. You’re building teams from year to year. Not building for the the future.
That’s why, for instance, it doesn’t make a ton of sense for McMahon to sit two of his three freshmen while getting stomped game after game. They likely won’t stick around and you just wasted two potential players.
He has to get impact starters from the transfer portal after the season. Not “development” guys.

Yea I don’t love it but it’s the way it is. It’s build it year to year now in basketball. You don’t see major conference teams with 3-4 year starters very often anymore. If guys are good, they leave early
If they’re not getting much time as they think they should because they’re not ready then they are gone to the portal

Will Wade could say that the sky is red and you’d have rantards tripping over themselves to agree and beg for him back. Culture does matter if you actually want to be elite, which we never were under Wade and never would’ve been. He was an excellent recruiter but he’s immature and isn’t a particularly good leader or program builder
How anyone can read that and agree with him is beyond me, especially after witnessing what BK and Jay Johnson are doing in such a short amount of time by focusing on....culture. Rantards gonna rantard I guess

I was Wade fan but believe he put LSU in a situation where they had no choice but to fire him so your assumption is incorrect.
I agree with him on that point that you don’t have teams with 4 and 5 year players anymore. It’s year to year for various reasons.
I wish it was like it used to be in terms of kids sticking around and staying in school but that’s not reality
And no, people don’t want to wait 4 years to try and build a good team. That’s not the world we live in either.
Kelly and Johnson have gone to the portal with great success to transform their rosters quickly. Not sure what you’re trying to say there

Sounds like he has a pretty realistic and accurate understanding of how college basketball works these days: you don’t build a program you build a team. Basically, a new coach has one off-season to figure it out and put a team together. Gone are the days of planning to finally have a championship team 3-4 years down the road. It doesn’t work like that. The players will be gone long before then and the fans will already want you gone too.
And the key is to have the best players who need the least development. So in one off-season you’ve got put together a team with whatever resources are available at the destination you find yourself in. Oh there’s no institutionalized pipeline supported by a legion of wealthy boosters (like at LSU) to pay players and their families in order to have a steady supply of 5 star talent? Tough luck, figure it out.
It’s too bad we’ve got so many deluded fans that can’t understand this is exactly what he was dealing with and trying to do here. “Oh but muh Dickie V don’t like it!”

In any sport my guy... football, baseball, basketball. He is only here to bash LSU. Always has been.

You fail to realize that a. College basketball isn’t college baseball or football
B. How many transfers did Jay johnson and BK take this year? BK has the #1 transfer class. Jay johnson added HUGE impact players like Tommy white

You mean Johnson who raided the transfer portal to win ASAP?
Also, unlike in football and baseball the elite freshmen enter the draft after 1 season. There is no opportunity to “develop” them. The NBA does that. Finally, you don’t have the complete roster turnover like in the other sports. You literally could lose more than half of your roster year after year. You’re unlikely to see 40+ players (football) or 20+ players (baseball). It’s not uncommon at all to lose 6-7 players each year from your basketball team. Even the great programs

I never said it was. Culture building isn’t a long term thing and we have 2 coaches who’ve proven that. Look at what Brian Kelly’s done- basically completely rebuilt the football team from the ground up in a year. Does he talk about ignoring culture?
Look at what Jay Johnson’s done. Pretty much turned over our entire pitching staff in a year and he’s a culture guy too.
The fact that Will Wade thinks you either get to A.) wait 4 years to build a culture, or B.) completely ignore culture, is probably why he got hammered every year in the round of 32 and sent home by coaches who actually have that level of attention to detail. His take is embarrassing and makes him sound like an idiot

But Wade is hoping to make a return to college basketball after the NCAA investigation, just like ex-Arizona coach and current Xavier coach Sean Miller.
You reading that Scott? Was it worth firing WW given the current state of the LSU basketball program?
