Yeah... And Mainieri wanted Pap to start over Kade during Pap's freshman year
Papierski started 12 games his freshman year, with 7 of his starts being midweek games to give Scivicque a break from catching.

Kade Scivicque started 60 games that season including the first two games of the season.

I'm not sure where you get from that Mainieri wanted Papierski to start over Scivicque, except for your continuing dislike for Mainieri.

My point is after all of that "strategery" to get Latz, he was a bust due to injury and somewhat of a head case. And Papierski is still here....

What a double whammy

I could see it being anywhere from round 7 to about 20 depending on how much a scout falls in love with his potential
He was drafted in the 16th round after high school when he was thought to maybe be a package deal to get Latz.

After thinking more about it since last night, I'm not sure his college career has improved his draft status much, or at all.

Catchers aren't drafted for hitting ability. If they can hit at all, it's just a bonus

Yeah, a catcher who hits .250 is an all-star, and one that hits .270 is a hall of famer.

Pap looks to have struggled to adjust to college pitching. He'll be lucky to hit .200 at the next level. There's a difference between a guy that just struggles with one pitch or hits a ton of fly balls and a guy that just can't seem to adjust to the level of pitching. Pap falls in the second group. He has never truly looked comfortable at the plate. I don't see that changing at the next level.

Even though defense is coveted in a major league catcher, a player has to be able to produce something offensively. That will always be the limit to pap's potential. If he can figure it out and hit .230 then he has a shot. If he continues to look the same as he has the last 3 years, he won't make it out of AA.

I don't disagree with anything above. His defensive abilities are enough to get him drafted, and how he adjusts on the offensive side will dictate how high he can rise.

It may not have, but I don't think it's hurt him either.

It has allowed him to prove he can catch velocity. He's still a high OBP guy. And he's proven his arm, blocking, and presentation (framing).

His lack of hitting pulls him back down to where he was before.

But, taller guys and catchers typically develop later at the plate. So there is still some development meat left on the bone and scouts will know that the hitter he is now is not the hitter he'll be in 3 or 4 years. Not saying he's an MLB guy, but he'll be given a chance for sure (to prove himself in the minors).

He does suffer from the same drawback as pretty much every single college catcher though in that he doesn't call his own games. Like I said, almost no catcher in college does, so that's not a huge deal.

Pap's only job in the minors will be a bull pen catcher. I see him going after round 15. He'll never see the big's .

He's not a good hitter and he won't get a lot better. He frames pitches well. He blocks bad pitches well. His arm is excellent. I'd say round 15.
