Will Lawrence only play DE next year?

He slid down and played inside this year, but with Shelvin emerging, Livingston improving and Iko coming in for the spring, will Lawrence be able to stay at DE only? I ask this because i think he could shed 15-20 pounds for DE only. It would help his quickness and conditioning. I believe he could be an All SEC DE and drive his draft stock through the roof. Trimming a little weight would help he and Fehoka both.

He did? I never saw him playing anything other than defensive end, except when we only had 2 defensive linemen on the field in our cheetah package.

My hope is lawrence and fehoko both can play on the ends all season. And that nose tackle is played very well by other players.

Not saying he played inside a ton. Maybe it was the cheetah package I’m thinking of. I really think he could be a dominant run stopping DE with 15-20 pounds trimmed off him. He was dominant for much of the Fiesta bowl but was gassed in the 4th quarter. I realized he played almost every snap but that was only 16 minutes of game time.
I’d love to see all of our D linemen trimmer. Orgeron used to be quite a bit more outspoken about his D lineman being trimmer and in better shape.

No. He is a DE in a 3-4 defense.

He feels most comfortable as a DT in a 4-3 scheme like he played at Neville

Dude is a prototypical 4-3 3 Tec DT

He only played inside in the 2-4 we run. He’s 300+ pounds he can play what is essentially a 4-3 DT with standing DEs.

Rugaroo, would losing 15-20 pounds help or hurt him?

He played DE the entire year. We run a 3-4 defense...might be why he looks like he’s playing tackle.

I hope we see Aranda run multiple fronts next season. I feel like Lawrence is being wasted as a 3-4 DE. I'm not saying abandon the 3-4, but if you can get a 4 man front with Lawrence inside he would thrive.

Completely agree. I dont think we were big enough to run 3-4 last year. Fehoko playing NT is such a waste too. Its one thing to have 3 really big spaceeating guys on the line. What they tried to do last year was another thing. It was a shame man.

We struggled against the run a little and got little to no non manufactured pass rush. Our defense was still very good, that's the amazing part. Just imagine if we used our DL to the best of their abilities.
