Several current University of Maryland football players and people close to the Terrapins program describe a toxic coaching culture under head coach DJ Durkin before offensive lineman Jordan McNair's death in June after a football workout.

quote:

There is a coaching environment based on fear and intimidation. In one example, a player holding a meal while in a meeting had the meal slapped out of his hands in front of the team. At other times, small weights and other objects were thrown in the direction of players when Court was angry.

The belittling, humiliation and embarrassment of players is common. In one example, a player whom coaches wanted to lose weight was forced to eat candy bars as he was made to watch teammates working out.

Extreme verbal abuse of players occurs often. Players are routinely the targets of obscenity-laced epithets meant to mock their masculinity when they are unable to complete a workout or weight lift, for example. One player was belittled verbally after passing out during a drill.

Coaches have endorsed unhealthy eating habits and used food punitively; for example, a player said he was forced to overeat or eat to the point of vomiting.

With what has been reported about Mayland's coach humiliating and borderline abusing players, etc., and Canada's reported personality issues, he and Canada will most likely be Mike Tyson-ing each other by the 2nd practice. ESPN needs to do an all-access special during practice over there if they want real ratings.

I’d rather watch a coach’s lowlights film compilation and realize what’s coming to my program than a highlight reel that plants a false seed of hope.

Poor players. This is so unique and has never happened before...

Yea, that’s not really conducive to, you know, shedding weight.

Make it, hell.. if he plays his cards right, he might be head coach the second half of the season once all the reviews are over.

Which team will have the better total offensive ranking this year?

LSU or Maryland?

Will LSU beat Miami’s arse. That’s all I’m worried about on these boring days leading up to football.

I didn't see his name mentioned in any of the allegations against the staff.

Maybe he can sneak his way into the interim HC job like Orgeron did if Durkin gets the ax.

Yes, this is all obviously Canada's fault.
And it only goes to prove that Da CoachO is awesome.
Except, ahem, when he hired Canada, of course...

Coach Durkin, cover your ears, Tyson is a known biter.

Well known fact-the coaching profession produces some of the worst human beings in the world. It has always been that way. I either respected them and would follow them through fire or loathed them and hoped they died badly and soon.
