Many comments on TR are made concerning Chris Hilton and Shelton Sampson. I really wonder why there is so much expectation with these players.

#1. Hilton has lots of speed, but speed doesn’t matter if you are not on the field. At LSU, he has been unavailable far more than ready to go. Further, he has shown a frequent tendency to drop catchable passes.

#2. Sampson has played minimal snaps since he has been here. If he is good enough to play, then we would see him in the rotation. He is probably destined to be the outstanding high school player whose peak was high school.

With #’s 1-2 above, I don’t expect much help from Hilton and Sampson. Good guys in the locker room I believe though.

I was definitely hoping we'd get something out of Sampson last Saturday but it's still pretty early. Last year everyone was ready to write off Anderson in his RS FR season. This year he looks like a good player for us.

With Hilton, obviously it is dependent on him staying healthy. But it looked like he was next in line after waiting his turn behind talented receivers.

As far as Sampson is concerned, it’s because he was a 5 star coming out of high school. He hasn’t shown anything that proves he will be productive in games yet. And if you listen to BK’s press conference yesterday, it sounds like he’s still got a ways to go. It’s why I was confused when there were people saying he was starting to live up to the hype a couple of weeks ago.

I agree with your take on Hilton. Him being on the sideline 90% of his career makes it tough to build chemistry with the qb and rest of the offense.

I disagree with you take on Sampson. He is extremely talented and can go up and get any ball thrown his way. I think he needs to learn the finer details to be able to be relied on. Blocking, field and situational awareness, and earn the trust of the offense. He will be a game breaker if he can accomplish those things
