Why wouldn’t Kelly coach the bowl game and run practice for the bowl game?

That’s a lot of time with players to get a head start on his way of doing things. If he’s here, it would be weird for him not to be running stuff while his whole team is having practice for the bowl game.

I get recruiting, but coaches do both.

I say let him get started.

Nah let him sit in the booth and take notes on the team.

He will watch the practices and scout his own team, and recruit. Will leave the Bowl coaching to Coach Davis.

He has 947 other things to do ...

Like bring in a new, bada$$ staff (some current coaches will stay on I am sure).... and add on to/retain our current recruiting class.

And work on creating a new culture....

so he'll be busy.

Too late to implement his own scheme.
He’s not going to try to coach someone else’s scheme.

My best guess.

Without being a smartass like I usually am...
It's because he doesn't know our system, players, coaching staff, etc.
There are so many factors involved.
I expect him at practices and the game but other than a few comments, he'll be a spectator.

He'll have more than a few comments. He will be involved, but just not in an official capacity. He'll leave the game day coaching to the current staff, but leading up to the bowl game, he will have some input, no doubt. I don't think he could help it if he tried.

I agree with letting him just observe. See who/what he needs to do for next year.

We gain nothing from him coaching this bowl game

It will also be a good chance for him to scout our coaches to see who he wants to retain

Too awkward. We are keeping our OC and DC in place, and therefore he would be trying to coach without fully understanding personnel and other factors.
And there really not enough time to hire and have his own coordinators coach....so absolutely best to let the current staff finish out.
Now, if the coordinators we have are candidates for a position with him, then they may well ask him to be part of the program.
