Shoot…I saw ASU vs Arizona mascots fighting before the game.

Because its not an established rival. Games like this will raise the stakes in the years coming. But most of these schools have been playing each other for 50+ years

It’s not a huge rivalry. Louisiana Kids growing up barely even thought about A&M. I’m a little older, When I was growing up A&M was just a team that Texas pummeled every year. Nothing more nothing less.

Tulane is our traditional rival. We don't have a real rival since we quit playing Tulane because everyone else has a team they hate more than they hate us.
Now, if we play Tulane in a bowl game....

May not have been a rivalry before last night but it is now. A&M student body rushing field next to our players, Woodward and Jimbo, knocked us out of the playoffs. If LSU and its fans don't hate A&M there is a problem. All the pregame BS that Jimbo had lost control apparently was BS. Knocking off #5 in the nation is a big deal. Especially with a path to the playoffs. A&M has shown that you can forget wins and losses when they play LSU.

I think our players knew they were playing a 4-7 team and looking ahead to UGA, etc. I think they just thought that we'd eventually take over and control the game. They just didn't seem to be as alert as they should have been and a&m was playing like it was their bowl game (and since they are not going to a bowl after having a terrible season, this was a huge game for them). They made big plays and LSU's players did not.
As for the rivalry, we've had some recent games that have added some excitement to the game, but we have at least 4 other rivalry games that have more passion and history. To be honest, we could have used the passion last night.

Not our rival, just like Arkansas was not. And with Texas coming in, we will once again be looking for a new “rival” for this weekend.
Maybe we can get that late season cupcake swapped to Tulane in the future and stop pretending an SEC opponent is a “rival”.

Playing Arkansas and A&M are miserable pointless experiences. It means everything to those people and I just want LSU to get through it.

One of the LSU storylines has been that they don’t have another school in state to compete with in recruiting battles. Because of this, we don’t have a rival on the football field. We hate Alabama, but we are, historically, 3rd on their list of rivals (Auburn & Tennessee). Ole Miss & Miss. St. have their egg bowl. Florida has Fl.St. & Georgia. When Texas comes into the conference, they will play ATM on Thanksgiving, just like they did for years. That leaves us with Arkansas. We have proven that we don’t care about them or the boot.
