Why was it so hard to get J. Jones to coach free throws?

I think his best season was like 69%, but usually it was around 65%. Last year, LSU was 73%. This year 75%. Is Will Wade really that better at getting them to practice FTs, or was Jones just that inept?

Its crazy that as good as 75% is, we could be so much better.

What does this mean? If we made more free throws our percentage would be higher?

1. Most any coach can teach the mechanics of FT shooting.

2. Most coaches practice FT shooting similarly.

3. It boils down to two things: (a) how good a "set shot" shooter is a kid, and (b) how much emphasis does the HC put on it.

I think WW emphasizes being good at FT shooting. Good for him.

I was going to say, you know who could say that? Literally every team ever.

Better players mean better shooters. Free throws are more mental than anything. WW has that mental edge going for him.

No coach has time to spend an entire practice on FT's, or even a significant portion of practice on FT. That's something the players have to work on endlessly before and after practice as well as in their own time. Some guys are naturally better than others at shooting them, but EVERY great FT shooter shares one thing...they tirelessly practice that aspect of their game.

The biggest thing a coach CAN do, however, is make FT's a significant point of emphasis and not just "accept" having a poor FT shooting team. Wade is a detailed oriented as it comes (sometimes maybe bit too detailed oriented), so I suspect he simply does not allow guys to accept being poor FT shooters.

We miss a lot of the front end of 1 and 1’s and have a lot of good shooters taking the free throws. No one on our team, including our bigs, have bad strokes.

Usually you have people who can’t shoot for shite dragging the percentage down.

Will Wade is a leader of men. He gets everything they’ve got.
Jones got 50% if lucky.

JJ emphasized how hit those glory holes instead of making the free throws

My theory is Johnny tried to be buddies with his players, which was ok until he got some attitude cases.

so is Shaq, Honey Badger, Patrick Peterson, Ben Simmons, Fournette, Miles, Cannon, Casanova, Hilliard, etc.

Can we not discuss them either?
