Why is 2006 LSU football so romanticized and overvalued?
Posted by cbree88 on 5/16/22 at 9:09 pm18191
We finished exactly where we deserved at #3. Florida was clearly better than us, especially at the end of the year. They beat us 23-10 head to head, and their defense was definitely better than ours. They shut down Darren McFadden and Arkansas, which is something LSU couldn’t do the week before even though we squeaked out a win. Their win over Ohio State was way more impressive than our win over an average Notre Dame team.
When you look at our roster, there were some obvious deficiencies. Guys like Brett Helms and Peter Dyakowski were starting on our O-line. Our RB’s were all pretty mediocre with Alley Broussard and Justin Vincent being shells of their former selves.
The D-line had Marlon Favorite and Chase Pittman starting, who were solid but nothing special. Luke Sanders was a below average starter at LB, and Darry Beckwith and Ali Highsmith were good but nog great. Jonathan Zenon was ok but certainly nothing special at CB.
We were a good team but certainly not the monster that this fanbase pictures that team as.

Is it, though? You had one goofball make a thread about it today. Other than that, I've never heard anyone romanticize it or talk about how great that team was.

Ali Highsmith
It was one of our best modern teams to not win it all.

He also ran a 5.0 at the combine as a LB, which led to him being undrafted.

It shows that he wasn’t actually that great and that our defense was vulnerable.
No wonder Run DMC ran wild every time we played Arky.

Maybe because the way they finished the season...on a high note and the anticipation for the next season...probably answers your question

That’s a good point.
Because they probably beat Auburn if not for that horrific Les Miles-esque game plan to lean on 2 overweight RBs coming off ACL tears
Florida was more of a meltdown in the grand scheme but i recall a dreadful holding call screwing things up in that one
That was a very good team and no one wanted tSmoke in November-January

Auburn cheated big time. Worst called game I’ve ever seen and I mean that across all of football

The Florida game officiating gets forgotten but it was abysmal too.

yup.
that called back TD
grand theft auburn was the worst officiated game i have ever seen at any level. 8 bad calls no calls and 4 were drive killers. they cheated blatantly when the replay official cannot get it right.
