Why hasn't the 1908 NC flag been put up?

It is recognized by the NCAA, but since there were no major pollsters back then, it's not recognized in the poll-era.
You can bet your arse a school like Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and Alabama would claim it. Maybe we are trying to be better than that. Not sure of the exact reasoning.

At that time, college football was pretty much unregulated. Many teams paid players and viewed it as a semipro league. The 1908 LSU team was exactly that and they even were able to get some of the professional players at the time to play for them with big bonuses and pay. It was basically a bought championship team (as were most teams that won back then). LSU chooses not to recognize it partially because of this and partially because of the lack of consistent polling at the time. There was very rarely a consensus champion.
