re: Why doesn't LSU play good teams before SEC play?

Well, let's just say that the pitching you will face against UF, Vandy, USCe, etc is considerably better than what the players are facing thus far. Therefore, facing a team like CSF in advance of that will be beneficial as would playing a couple more better teams. Same goes for the quality of hitters that the pitchers are facing.
first of all..i dont think we face all three of those SEC east teams..i may be wrong. Second of all...I still dont think our pitchers will get "better" because we face "better" hitters in ONE more series against a quality opponent. I may be wrong...but I believe there is ZERO data to counter my opinion.

We face Vandy and Fla in the reg season, not S.C.

Likely more important for hitters. And I don't have a link for you.

I'll settle this for yall, its debateable either way. Does an extra 3 games of facing quality pitching help that much for hitters in the long run. Probably a little, but not that much.

So at bats and innings for the bench in a blowout help them get ready for the grind of sec play?

I know you dont have a link...because there isnt any statistics that show tougher pre-conference college baseball schedules equate to better conference records. It's just opinion based on "how cant playing better competition be better"?.
Lets see...Tiger Woods played as an amateur at Stanford for a bunch of years....Michelle Wie decided to play against the big boys early...hmmm

So now you are comparing team sports to individual ones

what about another 6-9 games against teams with a pulse?

I can say yes as well as you can say no...seriously. Why do you think that playing close preseason games where the bench doesnt get any work is more benificial than the opposite? Where is your data? There is ZERO empirical data to support that playing a tougher preseason schedule translates to a better conference record. None. I dont really disagree that playing good teams before conference is beneficial...but I havent seen data that suggests it increases SEC wins. If you can supply that data...I would appreciate.

It helps big time, it prepares you for the grind of the best conference

I understand the sentiment...but really...how do hitters and pitchers become that much better over a few weeks..to the point it really affects the SEC record?
So are you saying playing a tougher OOC opponent will help the SEC record by 1 game?...2 games? 3 games? And this is based on what data from the past?

it can't hurt playing better competition. Im not talking about awesome teams every weekend. just someone that can give us a game.
but how much do you think playing Holy Cross helped us last weekend?

it's impossible to quantify, but anyone that has played any sport knows the difference in mindset between playing quality teams and playing teams you that we dont even have to show up for to beat.

That it doesn't help
You are the one who has to supply the data that confirms it helps...Im not a lawyer..but you guys are the ones who are saying it's important to play good competition to have success in conference play. You show me data where LSU played great OOC teams and had great SEC success...as opposed to playing scrubs and doing crappy in SEC play.

Show me some data
Show me some data

I played all three major sports thru HS and baseball thru JC. I know the mindset is different...but it doesnt mean the team is better 3 or 4 weeks after playing a good/great team. In fact...role players getting to play significant time can really help the team. It's just a matter of perspective really.
