According to him, because of his injuries.

Guess he wanted to take a shot at the draft to get some money instead of blowing his knee out his senior year and getting zero money

Knee wearing out. Had to go while he still could. He will go as a UDFA due to his knee.

These topics invariably come up year after year about college aged making decisions about their future. Why do some on this board spend so much time wondering and questioning their decision making? Just enjoy their time here and move on. Let them want to take their game to the next level. They’ve dreamed about that since childhood.

I think fans and posters on this board in particular need to do a better job compartmentalizing. It’s not always a black and white decision. It’s a business after all.

From what some have said, he had no choice, he quit classes and wouldn't have been eligible anyways. He couldnt even had played in bowl game if he wanted to.

Exactly Paul. You and I face similarly “difficult business decisions” every day. It’s about separating the emotions from the hard facts. But I wouldn’t expect any of these mongrels to comprehend such paramount elements.

If you knew anything about his situation then you know it was the right move for him. His knee troubles are only going to hurt him the longer he plays which would cost him money.
Do some research and don't be so ignorant

I agree with you, but in some players instances, it’s a little short sighted.

Toby Weathersby, for instance. He had no reason to leave besides wanting $ (which he was projected to go undrafted). So he signed a UDFA contract, has made 100k to date, and is now jobless with no degree.

Instead, he could’ve busted his arse for one more season and proved himself and potentially get drafted in the mid-late rounds and make a few million plus have a degree to fall back on.

Leaving early is an issue, and many don't like it because when we offer a kid a scholarship, we do so (in most cases) with the expectation that they will stay four years. I recognize that has changed with the advent of "college free agency" but that is still the exception to the rule. For every kid we sign, there are others who want to come to LSU for 4 years but the 85 scholarship limit forces them to another school. Obviously there are exceptions, but over the last ten years, how many of the kids who left early do you think we would have passed on, had we known they were going to leave early, even though not ready? 50% of them? More? It is what it is, and we have to accept it, but we don't have to like it.

The kid won’t even make a team. He should have stayed, got better, got his degree and tried to win a championship. I doubt his knee is really that bad. Makes absolutely no sense and is pretty indefensible

as far as the no degree part he can rectify that EASILY. I worked my way through college and it was in an era of virtually NO government loans. he can borrow the money today. if he has any gumption he can get his degree and join the work force with the rest of us. I hope he is the type that doesn't make excuses that are just plain BS.

Not sure if you watched him play last year , would go out sometimes twice a game with knee issues . You are correct about him making it in pros . Not a chance .

Has anyone ever considered the possibility that these kids may leave early because they don’t exactly enjoy being at LSU or in college in general? Each situation is unique and not cut and dry.

I didn’t like college either, but I do enjoy my bachelors degree and current salary. It was well worth not being a cry baby for the rest of my life feeling sorry for myself or working a 70 hour labor job work week just to make ends meet.

To each his own though. If he’s happy with the choice he made, then good for him and best of luck in the future.

Listen, I’m pretty open-minded to these kids making their decisions and doing what they feel is best for them, but....Isn’t that part of the whole original scholarship agreement we made with them? You know....LSU....college....it’s not like they just woke up one day and discovered “hey, I’m a college student...what gives?”
